Any word from Rome as to the discussion of widening the latin mass indult?
What is that?
Mass Indult is a uranium repletion process I think.
the traditional latin mass indult.
There was speculation that the pope may grant a universal indult so any priest may say the mass without his Bishops permission.
Unfortunately, it is still all speculation. We thought this would happen 2 years ago, but nothing has happened yet.
True - but we have a new Pope now who is supposedly sympathetic to those that want the old mass.
I think I remember reading somewhere that JPII and Benedict were unhappy with the way the Bishops were implementing were implementing "ecclesiae dei". Sorry for the spelling.
The bishops should finish up their presentations later this week. Next week will be devoted to discussion and voting on various topics. So far, the question of the Indult has not surfaced. I have been tracking this information and posting it to the forum. If you would like to be kept abreast, let me know and I will add you to my ping list.
My guess right now is that it is very much an open question whether the Holy Father will expand the Indult (which would likely have little effect on the many recalcitrant bishops) or even grant a universal indult (which would better) any time soon. It seems from the fragments of the reports that I have time to read (not all by any means) that the synod so far is not very interested in this aspect of things: they seem to be debating the same old stuff, as if they can't bring themselves to think outside the box, even in the midst of the very difficult time that the Church is experiencing.
Assuming the synod does not recommend an expanded/universal indult, it will perhaps depend on how far out in front of the synod the Holy Father thinks he should prudently go at this time.
But who knows? After the week of cardinalatial talking before the conclave, which seemed so very...collegial, I was happily surprised at the outcome. Maybe this will happen again.
According to the latest rumor from a "well placed source in Rome," a Vatican document will supposedly be issued this November 19th, the last Sunday after Pentecost and end of the Church year. The document will supposedly acknowledge the right of every Latin-rite priest to offer the Traditional Latin Mass, although (loopholes): (1) the New Order of Mass will remain the "rule;" and (2) each local bishop will still "regulate" the liturgy in his diocese.
I am not waiting with "baited breath" for this "momentous occasion," because as our Lord said, "There will be ... rumors ... until the end of time."
Then the question will become how free each bishop really is to regulate the liturgy in his diocese. If too free, then nothing will change. Maybe there will be subtle directives from Rome on this, but I do not hold my breath.
More speculation will contribute a great deal to the situation, no doubt.
I expect bishops will make it dead on arrival. Nonetheless, I am going to ask the intercession of Blessed Clemens August Graf von Galen.
