Put a Condom in the Collection Plate
Cleveland Free Times ^ | 10/04/05 | Henry J. Ceslewski Jr

Posted on 10/05/2005 6:07:57 AM PDT by marshmallow

There’s been much talk about reforming the Catholic Church by members of Dignity USA, but unfortunately, reform can never happen as long as a former Nazi, Pope Benedict XVI, heads the same fallible institution. Instead of praying for change and hoping for a dialogue with a tyrant, queers would be better served by resorting to the “in your face” antics of ACT UP.

After all, it was under Pope Benedict’s leadership as a bishop that the church’s doctrine which states that homosexuals are either “intrinsically” or “organically disordered” was formulated and put into place. A distinction was made between those homosexuals who have sex, and those who don’t when deciding who is “intrinsically” or “organically disordered.”

Bear in mind that Jesus said not a word about homosexuality one way or another. The church-sponsored, damnable lies can only add to the self-doubts and frustrations that many queer youth already face as a result of living in a homophobic world.

I’d like to see the church’s response to queer youth who contemplate or actually commit suicide as a result of listening to, and believing, the garbage being spewed by those in power in Rome. But it’s doubtful that the Catholic Church has the willingness or capacity to be honest in matters of life and death, in spite of their self-professed respect for all life.

Adding insult to injury, the Catholic Church blames homosexuals for the molestations and rapes of countless altar servers, in spite of a New York Times article that reported that more altar girls were victims of pedophile priests than boys. Any psychiatrist worth the paper their degree is written on will say without hesitation that there is an absolute difference between homosexuality and pedophilia.

Thinking of making a donation come Sunday? Instead, place a condom in your church-provided envelope with a letter urging those in control of so many minds and spirits to stop the war on queers, and gay youth in particular, and to tell the truth about what Jesus said or didn’t say about queer sex. Just maybe the Catholic Church will begin to get the idea when donations drop significantly. At worst, just maybe an unplanned pregnancy or an STD might be prevented as a result of priestly sexual abuse. But that’s doubtful too, as the Catholic Church is against condom usage as well.

Henry,

Perhaps you'd like the response of an Islamic Caliphate to homosexuality better than the Catholic church?

Can you say "concentration camp?" Good! I knew you could.

"Bear in mind that Jesus said not a word about homosexuality one way or another."

I was unaware that Jesus was silent for so long. That every word He ever said appears in the Bible.

Did he say any less about beastiality than He said about homosexuality, or are they both even for mentions by Jesus?

I don't believe the church is under any obligation to accept any form of protest inside it's doors during services. If people want to be morons let them stand in the street and do it.

The NYT is not the best source to quote. Nevertheless, I've not seen this...in fact I've seen the opposite. Can anyone refute this?

Yes, bestiality is ok. Nor do I recall him discussing rape to any great extent.

(BTW, Jesus affirmed the condemnation of Sodom & Gomorrah...those gay towns of the plain.....and he affirmed that marriage is one man one woman.)

Sometimes, what you do say does deal with subjects you've supposedly not addressed.

It isn't protest any more than a KKK rally is a "protest".

This is pure bigotry against the Catholic Church. How is putting a condom in the collection plate any different than trailing pork through a mosque?

""Bear in mind that Jesus said not a word about homosexuality one way or another."

Hogwash.

Matthew 10:15 and Matthew 11:14

In both of these passages, Jesus makes references to Sodom, a town that was condemmed by God for rampant homosexuality. He uses Sodom as a reference point. IOW these passages state that homosexuality is definitely wrong, but there are worse sins than homosexuality (such as rejecting the message that Jesus delivers).

His Father had already said plenty about it ... As evidenced by the origin and definition of the term "Sodomite".... I don't recall Jesus abandoning, changing, modifying, liberalizing, or rejecting the teachings of His Father.

But we are considered bigots if we use the word "sodomites" for those who commit sodomy.

marshmallow: "Bear in mind that Jesus said not a word about homosexuality one way or another"

I could feel the anger and hate and twist from you. Come on. The Catholic Church does not take your soul to heaven or hell. You do. The Church can help and will if you allow Her. Why hate the Church and spew half-truths on the Church? It does not change your relationship with God ... or does it?

There are many hetrosexuals who hate the Church's teaching on Contraception. They are in the exact same position as you, just a different angle. There are many who do not like the Church's teaching on divorce or re-marriage without an Annulment. They are in the exact same position as you. We are all brothers in Christ even if some would have you believe that all Catholics do is talk about how bad Homosexual acts are. We don't. We try not to focus on the list of cants and instead try to see what being in Christ's body elevates us to be able to do.

People waste their time chasing a cold institution with their gripes. They would be better served spiritually to live as best they can under the love fo Christ and His Church. The body of Christ is alive and living through the Church. People want you in the Church more than you can imagine. Look into that Church and see the love! There is much forgiveness and understanding. The Church doesn't have to be a cold institution, that the media focuses upon. It is made of people just like you. We are all sinners, working on building our love for Christ. We need Christ and each other more than we need hate of other people's sins. We look to find peace and understanding and a love that goes beyond our fallen nature.

Get beyond the "rules" and the grace the Church offers will more than compensate for Christ's easy yoke. We all need Christ's help and love. Just remember to work on your own personal beam in your eye first in order to see clearly enough to help with slivers.

I, a fellow sinner, pray for you through Christ and his mother Mary!

What is hard to fathom is why they try to change the Church into their image. Because there are some homosexuals who are Catholic, the Church is supposed to change 2000 years of Apostolic Tradition? For a group of people who probably represent less than 1% of the Church? Utterly ridiculous on all counts. These people have a very high idea of their own values, trying to impress them on the majority of people for acceptance. How much further will this slippery slope go? Next, mass murders will be appealing to the Church, because Jesus never mentions mass murders...

What prevents them from leaving, if the Church is so "stifling"?

Regards

Remember, ACT UP desecrated the Blessed Sacrament and disrupted Massin St. Patrick's Cathedral. We know exactly what you're talking about, Mr. Ceslewski.

Blah blah blah, queer, blah blah blah suicide, blah blah blah nazi, always the same old propaganda, same old lies.

It's about the Bible, the Church, it's not going to "change" to suit you OR your depravity!!

Just a added note..........these claims of hate, bigotry, phobia, are ALL baseless. How many times have we had to say no in our lifetimes? Never did it have anything to do with hate, bigotry, or any phobias. Most times it had to do with love.

"" Because there are some homosexuals who are Catholic,""

Correction, there are some homosexuals who "profess" to be Catholic, perhaps were "raised" Catholic.

I see Dignity is still peddling the same tired tripe to make a point. The fact is that the Church calls same-sex acts intrinsically disordered, not persons who suffer same-sex attraction. And, yes, that's precisely the way that then-Cardinal Ratzinger phrased the Church's teaching in the 1986 pastoral letter, Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons.
