Check your history, when you have time. Charles Martel in 732 (IIRC), did it (stopping the muslim hordes) centuries BEFORE the official crusading season. The only way he could be counted as a crusader would be through posthumous enrollment. Jan Sobieski in 1683(IIRC) did stop the muslim hordes AFTER crusading season ended, too. Crusades were a counterattack, when Europe was not in any danger from the direction of the "holy land" where most of them took place. And do not forget Albigensian crusade, and the fight againsh Hussites. The only time in that period when Europe was indeed in danger of being overrun with hordes was from the Mongols (hordes, albeit disciplined, true, BUT NOT YET MOSLEM in early 1240s). And IIRC, Jaroslav from Sternberk who had to handle it was not a crusader.
But that's besides the point - I am interested in getting crusaders' tax benefits.
