No of course the translations done much later are more accurate than the one done in 382 AD, and more specifically to your point, "This passage is not about Mary", your non-infallible interpretation of that passage surely is correct rather than that of the early Church fathers. After all we moderns are much better able to discern God's revelation 2000 years removed from Our Lord's incarnation than those men who were taught by the apostles, and those men taught by those men who were taught by the apostles...etc. /sarcasm
It seems the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops disagrees and supports this version which is quite different
The USCCB as an organization on its own has absolutely NO authority. The charism of infallibility does not attach to associations of bishops. Bishop associations as any kind of governing body in the Catholic Church are a novelty of modernity, an attempt to diminish papal authority. Really. Their opinion has no weight on its own, unless it conforms to what has always been taught by the Church. And its a good thing too considering that many of the US bishops are apostates.
"This passage is not about Mary", your non-infallible interpretation of that passage surely is correct rather than that of the early Church fathers.
1) I did not say my interpretation was infallible, you put those words on this posting, I did not. I have never ever said I am infallible...Please refrain from attributing words that I did not type on postings...thank you.
2) In reference to the passage...please explain how Mary crushed the serpent (Satan)? Did Mary fulfill the law perfectly? Did Mary die on the cross to justify us before God? Did Mary rise on the third day? Did Mary decend to hell to announce her victory over the evil one? Did any of the Apostles leave any mention (written or oral teaching) of Mary being our salvation and defeating Satan?
I'll concede that the woman the passage is referring to "the woman" is Mary...HOWEVER, the seed of Mary, Christ, was the one that crushed his head (to crush the head, is to destroy, defeat the serpent, Satan is it not?)...Would you would concede that Mary as a human being could not defeat sin, death and Satan? Further, would you agree Mary is not God? Lastly, you've told me you don't worship Mary but would you agree that if Mary is the defeater of Satan she would need to be viewed as God? Do you propose that it was Mary, through Christ, who defeated sin and death and therefore Satan and his seed?
Was Mary a part of the plan of salvation? Duh, yes, she was picked by God to be Christ's human mother so she absolutely was a part of the plan...Was she the fulfiller of the law, the defeater of Satan, who is our savior? No, there is ample amount of scripture truth to show who is our Redeemer...was she an integral and important part of the plan? Yes...
I don't know if you think I "hate" Mary, but I don't...I love her in the same way I love my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, which includes you...I only become concerned when the glory that is to be given to Christ as our savior is redirected to another, in this case, his mother...
Respectfully and God's blessings to you and yours...
