Our rector sent out a special Email to the parish, announcing that our second collection this Sunday and next would be earmarked for hurricane relief, via Catholic Relief Services:

Dear Parishioners:

I know you are all concerned about the victims of the recent hurricane, Katrina, and many of you have relatives and friends who are living in the affected areas. The media reports of the devastation boggle the mind. Please join in our parish prayers for all the victims – those who were killed and those whose lives and livelihoods have been destroyed.

On a practical level, we are going to take up a second collection this weekend (September 1/2 and the following (September 8/9) to assist the victims. The relief aid by the Catholic Church is being coordinated through Catholic Relief Services, an international arm of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Msgr. Edward J. Dillon
