This is essentially a marketing tactic: with traditional Christianity long abandoned, something, anything, must be found to command the sense of reverence and faith in greater things that the Episcopal Church formerly offered. If by some odd chance they were offered exclusive rights to a scientifically proved anti-aging elixir of miraculous properties, they would no doubt drop traditional communion for the new concoction but keep everything else as much the same as possible.
