snapping off only the thumb and forefinger of his outstretched hand. Doesn't the priest during the Mass keep his thumb and forefinger together in a circle from the consecration onward?

There is no doubt that New Orleans was spared the direct hit everyone expected, and I know that was Our Blessed Mother's doing.I just logged on and saw the storm was downgraded from a Category 5 to a 2. That is nothing short of miraculous. New Orleans was spared by prayer.
To: Canticle_of_Deborah
It was downgraded to a 2 today after it moved through southeastern Louisiana. However, it was weaker when it made landfall, down to Cat.4 from 5.

Then I'll take it as yet another gracious warning message from heaven. Not sure yet about the implications but it gives one a lot to consider.
To: Canticle_of_Deborah
Yes. It should make us tremble.

Thanks for the post about the Shrine in NO of Our Lady of Prompt Succor. How interesting that Thomas Jefferson- the patron saint of the ACLU- allowed it to be established. Especially noteworthy are the words of his letter to the Sisters.
(I just now heard a report on the radio about the damage from flooding in the French Quarter, the reporter said that some of the debris in the streets is Mardi Gras beads- chills)
Prayers being said for all in the path of the storm.

Repent and turn to her Son! (I'm using too many exclamation points, I know, but I feel this is so important. She wants us to pay attention and learn everything we can from this. To ponder it in our hearts...

Wow! Those are some very good metaphorical deductions.
To: Pajamajan
the reporter said that some of the debris in the streets is Mardi Gras beads- chills) Seriously. The depravity that celebration has descended to HAS to be a terrible affront to God.
To: Siobhan
Heaven is giving us so many more chances than we deserve.
(Pardon my cynical mindset these days)

It might inspire some of us who believe. Maybe we will remember.

The Blessed Trinity is far more merciful than I. Frankly, I would have "done smote" everyone by now. I understand the cynical part too. I just think Our Lady of Prompt Succor is a title Our Lady wants to be called. She saved our nation from the British under that title. It comes from a time when nuns were nuns and Holy Mass was celebrated with all the love and reverence our Divine Saviour deserves.
She calls us to the past to show us how to live in the present -- with the Blessed Trinity, truly devoted to her, faithful to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Ponder what... that there are Mardi Gras beads in New Orleans?!?! I CANNOT believe it...Just kidding...but seriously.... God wants us to come to him in repentence everyday and give ourselves to him and believe in his son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...Let's learn to do this no matter if it's rain or shine...Remember the book of Judges and the example of the Israleites!

Oh phatus, phatus, phatus. National repentance. Repentance for the murder of children in the womb... Repentance for forgetting Him... Repentance for dishonouring him with the very gifts He has given us.... National repentance. Led by the anointed leader of the land.... pondering, pondering, pondering in my heart where I treasure every thought of Jesus.
