It is wonderful that such a great athlete was able to find the peace that only Christ could bring and could find joy in his final days.

John 3:16 was also Steve MCQueen's favorite bible verse.
The "King of Cool" became a born again Christian shortly before he died, due to the influence of his third wife Barbara Minty and his flying instructor Sammy Mason. McQueen's favorite Bible verse was John 3:16 which reads, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."
