Should you not be relying on Holy Scripture to decide whether or not this is "permissible" to believe. God inspired scripture and the Holy Spirit should be your guide.

Hi, gscc, nice to hear from you.
There are a lot of things in the Bible that are frankly perplexing to me. I think it is not so fruitful to just puzzle over it on my own, even if I pray to the Holy Spirit (which I do) --- because all Christians pray to the Holy Spirit and yet come to different conclusions.
Even the phone book here in my little burg lists 54 different denominations, and they all have their own divergent interpretations of Sacred Scripture. God is not the author of confusion!
But St. Paul says that "The Church is the ground and pillar of the Truth." I am convinced that Jesus Christ teaches me through the Church --- the One Church ---which He founded.
You may not agree with this, of course: but I know that the teachers and shepherds of the Catholic Faith have helped perplexed persons such as myself get a right understanding and stay close to the Good Shepherd, Our Lord.
