Of the several sacred paintings of the Assumption by Juan Valdes Leal (of the Sevilla School) this one is most known. One of my professors (in antiquity, I know, I know) noted that Valdes Leal often painted the Assumption with Our Lady displaying a matronly face but the body of a child so as to represent the reality of her age but also the condition of her soul. 26 posted on
