The many parishes I visit in my diocese don't exactly encourage it anymore but you do see several people saying the Our Father (especially when it is sung) with both hands out, palms up, similar to how the priest does it.

But now that I think of it, I haven't seen the hand-holding in a couple years now.

Now what's impressive is the Church I occasionally go to that totally cuts out the "sign of peace". What a pleasant surprise that was to go from "And also with you" and go right to kneeling.

In our parish it seems to be the prerogative of the individual if they wish to hold hands during the Our Father, if relatives or close friends are in my pew, we offer each other our hands.

Same with the Sign of peace, a kiss for close friends and relatives a hand shake for the others.

We sing the Our Father in a lively rendition and hold hands while doing so. Don't know if it is encouraged in the Diocese of Richmond. I like it pretty well.
