THOUGHTS ON EARS It helps to remember in the current troubles that to progressiberals, listen, dialogue and sharing process are political and management-speak for Soften up/ Marginalize Opposition on the short or long road to Get What We Want and Make It Official Policy. We are all tempted to selfishly hear and seek what we want: its a facet of our bent race, and of the times we live in. But let us not be deceived: the liberals arent about to back up, give in, or admit any of their causes are wrong or poorly argued or deeply misconceivedthey are True Believers.
Thus, it doesnt matter if as weve said before classical Christianity has all the theologians, best arguments, the Church, the Bible & Creeds, the saints, and the true right and title to the good gifts of salvation in God: having ears does not mean liberals can truly listen, or admit when their assertions and evidences dont add up. Finger-pointing about conservative hypocrisies and confusions doesnt work either: a truth cant disprove a truth (or The Truth, for that matter). Of course the hodgepodge of Anglican non-liberals is a mess, with contradictions and blind-spots on divorce & re-marriage, sexuality, liturgy, womens ordination.. the list goes on. So what? Not all advocates of tooth-brushing are paragons in every way either but lets keep brushing, shall we?
As time and opportunity allows, we should be ready to give reason for the faith, hope, and love that is is us presuming it IS in us and be willing to show and discuss that faith with those inside and outside the church who may not understand or agree with it. But inoffensive sweet reasonableness, however Anglican, is what got us into this mess it will not get us out. God is not nice.
ECUSA needs a hearing aid.
