Again, we disagree on the tense. Christ is doing it all.
Doing what all? We're talking about fulfilling the law. We're talking about whether or not there is a need to rebiuld the temple once again and reinstitute animal sacrifice once again in the future.
Let's get specific. You quoted from 2 Peter 3 about the second coming. That aspect of Christ's coming is still in the future. Also, still in the future, according to the New Testament, is the final subjection of all the nation under the foot of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:25). The NT indicates that what Christ has yet, finally to do is to destroy Satan and his works, and to conquer death once for all by casting all His opponents into the Lake of Fire.
But to try to expand this and to include aspects of the old covenant shadowy, ceremonial law, all of which pointed to Christ's first coming where He was sacrificed for the sins of His people, is sheer folly. It is directly contrary to the book of Hebrews and all that Christ and His disciples testified to in the rest of the NT.
Nowhere in the NT does it speaks of the physical Levites being raised up again. This in spite of the fact that the NT is quite clear that the Levities ministry was temporary and destined to fade away. Likewise with animal sacrifices and the physical place for sacrifices, the tabernacle/temple. We are told quite clearly in Jesus' warning in Matt. 24, Mark 13, Luke 21, and all that is written in the book of Hebrews that it was going to be destroyed. That it was a shadow and about to fade away. But nowhere do any of these NT writers calm the fears of those who wish to see the temple rebuilt by saying, "But fear not, the temple will be rebuilt and animal sacrifices reinstituted once again just before Jesus return." Do you know why they do not say it, because it is an absurd proposition considering all that they testified about the person and work of Christ. Such a thought would entirely undermine their message of complete salvation in Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
I really fear that people with such a notion do not understand the gospel of Jesus Christ. Much like the ancient Judaizers who wished to mix law-keeping with the grace of the gospel, binding men to that which was demonstrably temporary, this new theology wishes to remake the worship of God in patterns that were destined to fade from the scene thousands of years ago. Human Levites are no way to approach God when we have our great High priest seated on David's throne in heaven.
