The 1000 years mentioned in Rev 20 is not in a passage that explains itself as being symbolic. That is a simple fact. There is nothing in that passage that indicates it must be symbolic.

True, but treating it as symbolic is a reasonable explanation for the text. If we can admit that much I guess we're making progress.

As I said, many postmils have taken the thousand years as a literal chronology, even while placing it before the second coming. They have usually placed it still far in the future based on their expectations about the nature of the thousand years.

In the discussion of that which is not certain, it is wrong-headed to refuse to consider one of the legitimate alternative models.

Why do you assume I have not considered it? In fact I embraced the literal 1000 years, premil position some time ago. Then I did further study and modified my position, now being postmil and believing the 100 years is symbolic of the entire age between the first and second comings as the gospel is advanced in the world.

Valid, alternative models must continue to be considered.

To make a choice that some passage is symbolic when you formerly favored a literal interpretation is your right to a preference. However, since we are speaking of future things that are not certain, it strikes me as inappropriate to then reject the former model.

Viable BIBLICAL models presented by sincere Christians must be kept on the table....not written off. Their strengths and especially WEAKNESSES must honestly be pointed out by their ADVOCATES. Their weaknesses and especially STRENGTHS must honestly be pointed out by their CHRISTIAN detractors.
