Yes celibacy is the root of the molestation scandal, because it is attractive to homosexuals, for whom not marrying a woman is no great sacrifice. Furthermore, because priests have no other human being to answer to for their personal conduct due to celibacy, a stark contrast to having a wife that would monitor them closely.

Here is the most virulent root cause. The practice of putting them into seminary High School where they have had to make a life decision as a 13 year old then no sexual expressions from thereafter froze their emotional response in place to that of young juveniles, and the all boy environment turned the frozen juvenile emotional development homosexual. Later in life they could not keep the affinity for young boys bottled up forever and the child molestation began. The ones doing it didn't understand the urges in all cases, these deviances were unfortunately programed into them. This is the root cause of the widespread homosexual pedophile scandal, combined with an all male clergy which unwittingly promotes a homosexually oriented outlook.

So in your fantasy world, people are just a collection of sexual tics, basically. I disagree. Logic disagrees.

Are you kidding? IF that were so, then only men masquerading as priests would be molesters. What about other clergy, and don't pretend for a second there aren't molestors among other Christian denominations, including the recent case in the south. Sadly, it's true. What about Scout leaders and teachers and youth leaders and coaches and school janitors and bus drivers and day care workers who molest? Many of these are married men. And women. The BTK suspect is married with 2 children. John Wayne Gacy was a clown for childrens parties, not married, but not a priest either. Pretending that priests are molesters because they are 'forced' to be celibate is not only hugely inaccurate, but ignores a huge portion of the group who molests to the detriment of society, of us all.

Furthermore, because priests have no other human being to answer to for their personal conduct due to celibacy, a stark contrast to having a wife that would monitor them closely.

Wow. Look how well 'monitoring closely' has worked for Hillary. And thousands others. Look how well it's working for married people, with a 50% divorce rate and rampant infidelity. I guess those wives just aren't monitoring them closely enough. Priests have spiritual advisors (to whom they are expected to be honest) and superiors. There is accountability.

I can not help but notice you responded to Conservative till I die yet totally ignored my post #154. What is it about Matthew 19:12 that makes all Protestants run for cover? I have noticed this ever since I was a teenager with my Freewill Baptist friends. Since I was Protestant at the time I remember this passage and the inability to come up with a Protestant explanation. As I see it there are 4 possible responses:

1. Admit the Catholics have something with this passage about the value of a celibate way of life.
2. Shrug your shoulders and say "I can't make heads or tails of this passage"
3. Come up with a Protestant alternative to the Catholic explanation
4. Ignore it, pretend it was never mentioned and quickly change the subject.

In private and among friends I have seen Protestants admit to the first option, but the most common is the 4th as you have just amply demonstrated. Run do not walk away from the passage as if it does not exist. In fact I have raised it several times in my life and have gotten the same response as yours. In fact just this week on another thread the very same thing. Since we have readers I thank you for the opportunity to demonstrate the failure to respond to the Catholic Truth.

I guess option 2 and 3 are possible but pride prevents the one and the obvious meaning of the passage prevents the other.
