A true ecumenical patriarch of patristic era, and, let us pray, a sign that such unity may be found again.

He has always drawn me. One of the things that is fascinating to me is that he was not a clergyman.

Not a clergyman, but a great saint and theologian which I suppose is all the more reason for the laity to commemorate him. He also lived in a dangerous time but was not afraid to contest for the Faith in words and ultimately with his life, thus the crown in his hands in the icon.
