When did people begin touching the host with their hands??? I never saw that where I grew up and was not taught this either. At least since the late 60's. You must not have been to a Mass in America for quite a while. It's an indult, not a universal practice in the Church.

The first time I took Communion was in the early 1980s ( I wasn't even born till the late 1960s! ) and no one took communion in their hands - no one. We were never taught to take communion in our hands as well.
It was only after I moved to Boston that I saw this.
