The Emerging Gimmick [on the "Emerging Church"]

There is this new phenomenon that is sweeping through the evangelical world - it is called the "Emerging Church". It is some amorphous sort of movement headed by megachurch pastors and other gurus, such as Brian McLaren. It opposes grand meta-narratives in the name of postmodernism, and is characterized by taking snippets of this, and a dash of that, and rolling it all together into a customized "church" experience." It is very anti-dogmatic, and tolerates multiple, even contradictory, views of Scripture and Tradition. The worship at these churches may include the use of icons and rock bands, eucharist and dance. They are lead by "teams", and the head guru usually has no degree in theology.

It sounds like a bunch of bunk to me. ...

Don't like the accusation against those without a degree in theology. The "degree" is gotten by calling of God, not from a paper. Someone spending personal time with Jesus Christ makes a GREATER servant of Him, than some egghead with a ton of head knowledge but no love.

I've met pastors with degrees in theology that were horrible pastors, and some that were excellent. I've met pastors without degrees that were excellent, and some that weren't. When all is said and done, the degree means nothing. It is the Lord's blessing that matters.

..and if so then how did the Anglicans "come up with" Bishop Homo-erotic?

Is he therefore the "ultimate form" of Anglicism?


(I basically agree with the article, but thisn man's swipe at Protestantism is unjustified.)
