Au contraire, yourself. Either I wrote more poorly than usual or else you misread rather badly.
I'm quite sure he left every penny behind, and left all his pension, salary, etc. He was honest in his objections. I was thinking about his parishioners who had raised so much money and thought their church would be going forward in the faith under his strong leadership. He left the money, no doubt, but who will be his successor? Anyone at least as honest?
Don't jump to conclusions so quickly.
But that's the club the ECUSA holds over those members who still hold to the faith, thanks to the leadership sneaking in a provision in the charter that all property belongs to the national church. Toe the line, or they take your church buildings and the cemetery where your grandparents are buried. The bishop has already done that to two churches in my home town, and is working on a third.
At some point, you have to decide that your faith is not worth compromising for the bricks and mortar and money. The ECUSA is forcing priests and parishioners to make that decision -- knowing that quite a few will back down and worship Mammon rather than the Lord.
I wasn't the only one who drew that conclusion from your message, BTW.
