The good Archbishop was an "errand boy" for the Holy Father once upon a time. I bet if this happens, the Holy Father keeps the real portfolio, the Archbishop remains an Archbishop (and does the copying and filing) and a new, orthodox Cardinal Archbishop ends up in San Francisco. Frank, I think that you have the spirit of it - if not the very particulars of what will happen. I am suspecting Pope Benedict XVI wants to get someone who is very tough against the URI into San Francisco, and getting Levada out may be worth the price of promotion.
