Can either of you recommend a good Church history book? Preferably one more geared to someone of average intellect, and not too difficult to assimilate?

Eusebius Pamphilius' Ecclesiastical History is the best place to start. He records the first 300 years of the history of the Church and there was nothing like a modernist agenda back then for him to lead you astray!

"A Short History of the Catholic Church" by Jose Orlandis, Director of the Institute of Church History at the University of Navarre.
Available from Four Courts Press - 154 pages of actual text, and each chapter is arranged in a series of numbered paragraphs setting off each topic. Its very easy to read and comprehend and study from either in a couple of long sittings, or as a little bit to read evey day; and it is written with the average layman in mind. And its only $9.95.
