ROME -- Future American parish priests studying in Rome are cheering the choice of a pontiff forged in the image of the only pope they've ever known.
Yet, when the seven American cardinals who run dioceses were asked Wednesday how Pope Benedict XVI will help them recruit new candidates for the priesthood and keep them from closing parishes, there weren't many concrete answers.

True enough.
It has to start with the pride of the individual.
You mean "nuns" that look, sound, and twist like that honker that was on Meet the Depressed this AM?
Well, there's Mahony's promulgation and enforcement of a completely BOGUS set of "liturgy" requirements.
Then there's the little problem of collusion and conspiracy relating to "hide and seek" with pedophile priests.
And the most telling: his attempt to Canonically stifle Mother Angelica's EWTN after she called his spade a spade.
Or you could take a real hard look at the "catechetical" materials and speakers his Diocese parades around every year.
This list could be endless.
Well, I have bad news for you. Milwaukee has about the same set of problems (and a much smaller but similar population profile, less the Arabs...)
Abp. Dolan has been here over two years and has made only one major change, bringing on a new admissions guy to the Sem.
The babes are still there as students. They are still turning out abysmally ignorant MA theses. The dissenters are not being stifled--not at all.
The "Catholic" colleges wouldn't even qualify as Unitarian; the "Catholic" high schools have a catechetics curriculum which is questionable, at best. Grade school students are still given "how-to" sex ed in 5th/6th grade.
I recognize that Abp Dolan has a hard row to hoe (to say the least.) But I'd sure like to SEE a hoe in his hand.
Sadly, (yeah, right) I didn't get to see MTP on Sunday. I can imagine the type of self-worshipping nun that TR had on representing all of American Catholicism. Probably like the one at my old parish who told people that "we are the Blessed Sacrament".
TR did a decent job of "balancing"--he also had Fr Fessio and the US Provincial of Opus Dei. There were a couple of other lefties whose names I did not catch, and a MSM-type (Newsweek?)
The nun was ghastly and arrogant.
