Maybe, if they want change, they should look to themselves.

"My initial reaction as a gay Catholic man is disbelief and sadness, almost depression," said Gino Ramos, the co-chair of the gay Catholic organization Dignity/San Francisco. "My heart sank when I heard the name Joseph, and I said, 'Oh my God, bless us all.'

What was he hoping for: A pope wearing pink leather tights named 'Tina' ?

There is no such thing as a gay Catholic.

Damn.  And I was so sure the next Pope was going to call for a full re-write of The Bible and The Catechism, allowing sex outside of marriage, homosexuality, gay marriage, condoms, women Priests, male Nuns, and transgenered Masses.

Maybe next time.

Exactly. They are just gays, who want the church to approve of their lifestyle, so that their lifestyle is accepted in society as a whole. So they try to claim they are Catholics.

As a former Roman Catholic turned Lutheran, the more I read about the new Pope the more I like him-
* Defected from the Nazis
* Supports teaching the Catholic faith (needed in America)
* Rejects Liberal Theology
* Strong supporter of life

I also like that by selecting a European, it signals the Roman Church is not giving up on Europe and America. I hope that the Vatican also reaches out to Evangelical in America on common missions of Life and relativism.

I think he was hoping to hear a press conference at which the Pope would announce the discovery of an 11th Commandment reading "Thou shalt bugger thy neighbor"

yeah, that's it. when are gays going to figure out that the Catholic church is NOT a political party ? they need to go start their own "Church of the Sacred Twinkie".

i'm sure a lot of people are sick and tired of their incessant boo-hooing that the church won't sanction their perversions.

There is no such thing as a gay Catholic - why do people feel like they can decide what "sins" are worse than others? It seems statements like the one here implies: I am a sinner maybe, but you sins are worse than mine, so I can decide if you are Christian enough, I decide from my reading of the Bible, then I can proclaim, who is of faith and who is not. I do not want to offend Old-Mil, I think I understand where they are coming from, I just do not understand where they feel they have the authority to decide that certain sinners cannot be Christian/Catholic.

But did not Jesus say "Go and Sin no more." Gays basically want to have their cake and eat it to. They want to continue to sin. It's not that homosexuality is necessarily a greater sin, than say, stealing. But a thief who becomes a Christian does not steal anymore.

I'm a former Lutheran who converted to Catholicism about 23 years ago, mainly because my wife is Catholic. I'm convinced now that it was a good decision and am glad I did after listening to my mother about how liberal the Lutheran Church has become, so much so she has almost stopped going.

But did not Jesus say "Go and Sin no more." They want to continue to sin. I agree with the first sentence, the second is a little iffy; how did you come by the knowledge that you know what they have in their heart when they sin? You have made my point very well.

If you go on the assumption that being gay is a sin, these people specifically identify themselves as gay catholics. In that they will continue to engage in the sinful acts.

We are not talking about people who may truly wish to overcome their urges, but fail in moments of weakness. We are talking about people who take an "in your face" attitude and won't even try to stop engaging in sinful acts.

"They want to continue to sin."

"I agree with the first sentence, the second is a little iffy; how did you come by the knowledge that you know what they have in their heart when they sin? You have made my point very well."

The above article has shown their willingness to turn from what has been termed a "grave sin". By desiring a pope who will condone their actions, they are not contrite nor are they obeying Jesus command to repent. What would you think of a group of "catholics" who were rapists, thought nothing of what they did as being wrong, and were disappointed that a new pope was unlikely to condone their behavior of raping people? Who needs to change here?

Regards

I am not Catholic but I am a Christian that believes that the Word is the foundation of the Christian faith. There can be a gay Catholic. Being a member of the Catholic church does not make you a Christian. I know that there are a lot of Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, etc..who carry the denominational name like proud banner but are not truly Christians. Our religion does not saves us but our salvation results in our religious activities. We are all sinners and I will never say that the sin of a gay person is worse than mine. I do not say homosexuality is a sin, God does. To deny this is to deny the inerrant word of God. Not standing firm on the word is the most unloving thing a Christian can do whether it involves homosexuality, adultery, human life or the church. When I sin I do not try to legitimize it but I repent and ask for forgiveness. Thankfully we have a God of love, grace and mercy. Can a Buddhist be Christian preacher just because it is his desire?
