Yes, I saw that yesterday. They also had Cardinal Pell from Australia on. He said it was clear that Cardinal Ratzinger was the best man for the "job" and that he was quite serene when he reemerged from the Room of Tears.
"For fostering a true consciousness in liturgical matters, it is also important that the proscription against the form of liturgy in valid use up to 1970 should be lifted. Anyone who nowadays advocates the continuing existence of this liturgy or takes part in it is treated like a leper; all tolerance ends here." - HH Pope Benedict XVI, God and the World, Ignatius Press, 2002
On an traditional Catholic e-mail list there are posters far more knowledgable than I who have said that the practical reality of a universal indult would not be a significant change (FRmail me if you want more info. about that). It would, however, have a significant psychological impact on those who hate the old Mass.
I think the jury is out on that.
Some traditionalists will say that even with a universal indult, local ordinaries who are forced to sit back and watch the Old Mass offered contrary to their wishes will be watching to see which priests celebrate it and punish them in other ways - creating a climate of fear in which the indult will be available but still rarely used.
Do you know if Benedict XVI was one of the cardinals on the panel that discussed the question of the abrogation/obrogation of the Tridentine Mass?
Yes! Arroyo and Neuhaus made an excellent team throughout these two weeks. Truly uplifting and inspiring, as opposed to watching the trash promoted via the MSM. Makes me proud to be catholic!
