Is there anyone who rates these guys in terms of conservative, moderate, or liberal in reference to church tradition/history/doctrine?

I've always heard that JPII, prior to his elevation to pope, was a conservative....do you agree with that?

Someone had to have rated him -- formally or informally -- for that to have been said. Where are those ratings?
