Religeous or Born again 2: Radio Host Fired For Wondering If Pope Went To Heaven
AP ^ | 04/14/2005

Posted on 04/14/2005 8:19:04 AM PDT by NormB

Follow up to the born again versus religeous discussion earlier this news item shows how intolerant everybody is becoming.

Clearly Christ would have been totally rejected from this modern age as he was in biblical times, even by those who claim him as Christ.

From the source:
Minto, who is also senior pastor of the 100-member Turning Point Community Church, said he told the caller that whether someone was born-again was personal and "between an individual and the Creator."

Well then, we can see what an intolerant goon this guy must be for suggesting such an outrageous concept. (/sarcasm)

I'm a devout, practicing, conservative Catholic. I don't agree with his interpretation of Christian faith, but I wasn't offended. It's not like he said, "the Pope's going to hell". The Catholic Church doesn't even guarantee someone is in Heaven until and unless they've been raised to sainthood... So, yes, in my opinion, this seems like an overreaction to fire him.

From the article...

"WORD-FM needs to function in this city in support of the entire church -- that means everybody -- and not focus on denominational issues," Gratner said."

There was the old ecumenicism, i.e the liberal World Council of Churches variety. Clearly evil.

Now there is the new ecumenicism which is thoroughly evangelical and "conservative". It is growing hand in hand with the church growth movement and Christian media and is willing to make peace with all type of error for the sake of unity and with an eye towards gaining a "larger market share".

I'm afraid Christians are not awake to the trouble this will cause them. I believe, given time, it will turn out to be just as evil and anti-christian as the old ecumenicism.

Looks like a business decision. Can't get the listeners upset, the advertisers won't like that. The questions must have been a little more 'intense' than related in the AP story.

Most born again Christians see it coming, and know that there is little to do to stop it.

Once "born again" is a dirty word(s) then you may as well start your own house church.

***Most born again Christians see it coming, ***

What surprises me is that most evangelicals/conservatives are aware of the dangers of the old liberalism but they don't see this for what it is.

It's the same thing repackaged. Different target (US consumers as opposed to European intellectual) but it is the same thing - minimize Biblical truth in order not to offend.

I am a Catholic as well, and I also find the action to fire him ridiculous.

Here are 2 articles, part one and part two I had posted on "Tolerance" if anyone is interested.

Desecration of Tolerance part 1

Desecration of Tolerance part 2

Since he doesn't believe in Purgatory and doesn't believe the pope is in heaven I think he is saying the pope is smoking in hell. Christianity...such a loving religion.

The "I'm OK Your OK" philosophy is not real love.

"WORD-FM needs to function in this city in support of the entire church -- that means everybody -- and not focus on denominational issues," Gratner said.

In other words, Gratner was saying that the pastor was not politically correct enough, and that he needed to be "sweet and nice" instead of being concerned for the truth.(gag)

Now there is the new ecumenicism which is thoroughly evangelical and "conservative".
I wouldn't call the new ecumenism "evangelical" according to the original meaning, but then I'm nos so sure that as a Reformed believer, that I would fit the new definition of "evangelical".

It is growing hand in hand with the church growth movement and Christian media and is willing to make peace with all type of error for the sake of unity and with an eye towards gaining a "larger market share".
The new ecumenical movement has been influenced by moral relativism of the postmodernist culture, to now having doctrinal relativism. In their minds, doctrine doesn't matter since there is no absolute doctrine, so, you gots doctrine, dey gots doctrine, all God's chillun gots doctrine and dey is all de same. All you have to do is say you believe in Jeeeeessssuuuuuuus! Doesn't matter what you believe about Jesus, or who Jesus really is. Just say those words, "I believe in Jeeeeessuuuuus", and everything is fine.

I'm afraid Christians are not awake to the trouble this will cause them. I believe, given time, it will turn out to be just as evil and anti-christian as the old ecumenicism.

I think it already is as evil, if not more so than the old ecumenism.

Thanks for the laugh, even though it is rightly followed by sadness.

I see denominations getting exercised over the possible ordination of homosexuals, but what do they expect after they have abandoned doctrine?

It is a very sad thing to witness, but does have need for some comic relief once in a while. I'm reminded of Elijah's poking fun at the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel at another sad time in the history of Israel.

I see denominations getting exercised over the possible ordination of homosexuals, but what do they expect after they have abandoned doctrine?
Well, they have found that warm, fuzzy, feely Rodney King religiosity is as empty and shifting as the sand Jesus said not to build on, and now they don't know what to do except curse the darkness.

Since he doesn't believe in Purgatory and doesn't believe the pope is in heaven

He didn't say that the Pope wasn't in heaven. He merely entertained discussion on it, and said that whether someone was "born again" was ultimately between God and the individual.

I'm a Catholic, and I see nothing offensive about that.

"I am a Catholic as well, and I also find the action to fire him ridiculous."

Same here, one can use the question to a point of speculation...maybe very few people enter the pearly Gates.

Maybe God is pissed off about sodomized altar boys, desecration of the Mass, animal worship in Assisi, pagan worship in Fatima...or he's pissed off about stuff we don't even know about....

Has the Reformation been so abandoned that even suggesting that it was a good and necessary thing is now forbidden?

Is the pope to be seen as head of all professing Christians as Fox News and others have implied? (He was almost always noted as the "Head of the Church" - I thought Christ was head?

minimize Biblical truth in order not to offend. And therein lies the rub. All the power in Christianity comes from those things which Christ said that pissed the Pharisees off. "Before abraham was I AM." I love that one. You can practically hear the garments rending.
