I go to St Michael's in Farmingville. The picture I posted is not from the chapel I assist at, but it is from St Mary's Academy and College in Kansas.

PS

Every time I see a new vestment I have not seen before I think of you. I have found out from our priest that some of them are made by religious sisters here, and many are made in India.

The detail work on some of them is awesome.

Wasn't this Church vandalized a couple of years ago? What was the outcome of that?

Yes the Church was vandalized, but that was before my time there. I know very little about it, other than that they had to have mass in the parking lot the following day.

According to sources...my priest keeps a chunk of the marble from the destroyed altar on his desk at Ridgefield.

I did a Google search on the desecration that you spoke of. How awful! That was a beautiful altar, more than a 100 years old. When I see and read about things like this, it just reenforces my own belief that Catholicism is the true faith, and that her enemies will stop at nothing in an attempt to destroy her. But we know who wins in the end. ;-)

Here is a picture of the altar now, when the bishop was here for Confirmation. It's even more beautiful in person.

I guess they restored it. Were the relics totally destroyed?

I really don't know any details, this was before my time at the chapel. I do not know if this is a restored altar or a different altar. Does it look like the same one to you? Can you post the picture that you found in your search?

I just love the angels kneeling in adoration before the tabernacle.

Farmingville is 15 minutes away from me. St. Michael's is literally down the block from one of my best friend's houses.

What time is Mass on Thursday, if you don't mind my asking?

Regards,

It looks like the same altar. The angels kneeling in adoration reminds me of the altar in my own church.

Photos of the desecration:

Thank you. Perhaps I will be able to go tomorrow night and will see you there.

If you see a tall redheaded woman with two stunningly handsome boys in tow, that will be moi. (Hubby won't be able to come. He is working 3-11 tomorrow -- he's a policeman.)

Regards,

I was attending these services over the last three years, when my parish started offering them on Holy week Wednesday. I stopped going, and actually walked out last year, when the parish decided a lay woman (not even a nun) lead the service, instead of one of the priests or deacons.

Nonetheless, it's a very nice and solemn closing to Lent.

Here's a good description.Tenebrae

Sorry. It was reported that two suspects were caught, and a third was sought at the time. I can't find any other information online.

and that would be washing the priest's feet with her tears.

That would be carrying things too far imo. It's degrading to women. Priests as humans aren't any better than women. I know the woman in the bible washed Jesus' feet with her tears. It reminds me of the account I read in an old catholic book about a novice or nun who had just seen a priest ascend some stairs. She went up the stairs on her knees and kissed every one of them.

At first you accept things like that because that's the way women have been conditioned for centuries. Then something snaps.

I find it hurtful that women are excluded, especially in light of the woman in Atlanta (who probably isn't catholic) and what she did for God.

But I also believe in rules if they aren't too harsh, so I'm willing to go along with it for the sake of peace. But I don't think it is right.

A lot of people are forced to participate in rituals (peer pressure, tradition) when, if they really think about what they are doing and why, they might individually choose to do otherwise.

And while I'm in talk mode, I'm having a hard time finding anything very holy about this week. It is all incredibly depressing. The pope is not well. The mess in Florida. Bad news everywhere. It will be all I can do to drag myself to church if I can manage to do it.

It's degrading to women.

But, it was okay for the Son of Man to get down on his knees and wash the feet of His disciples. That was not degrading.

I find it hurtful that women are excluded

You are not alone. These women share your view of more inclusiveness. Perhaps this link will be helpful.

You probably already know about this. Are you participating or is it going to be chanted by an all male schola?

I actually don't know about it. I'll let you know what I find out.

I am also a redhead (thanks to L'Oreal). I will be with my mom and daughter, west side of chapel, about the 7th pew from the altar (no kidding my mom is a creature of habit). I'll look for you. = )
