Bob Fishman
Viewers will be surprised to learn how many elements of Catholicism, from the Sacrifice of the Mass to the rituals surrounding seasonal celebrations, have their roots in Judaism. Bob Fishman, a Jewish convert himself, develops this theme through stories about the great Jewish saints, holidays, and practices which became integrated into Catholicism. The 3-part mini-series is a wonderful blend of humor and sound teaching.

Marty Barrack has an awesome conversion story. Great web site too. It's www.secondexodus.com
Look forward to learning more.
Please do. We can always enjoy a good laugh.
I've heard Roy speak on several different programs on EWTN and Ave Maria. Listening to him speak, on everything from his conversion story, to the eschatalogical role of the Jews, to Islam and Israel, is a real treat.
Have you ever heard or read Roy Schoeman's story? He was born in a suburb of New York City of "Conservative" Jewish parents who had fled Nazi Germany. His Jewish education and formation was received under some of the most prominent Rabbis in contemporary American Jewry, including Rabbi Arthur Hertzberg, probably the foremost Conservative Rabbi in the U.S. and his hometown Rabbi growing up; Rabbi Arthur Green, later the head of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College who was his religion teacher and mentor during high school and early college; and Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, a prominent Hasidic Rabbi with whom he lived in Israel for several months. His secular education included a B.Sc. from M.I.T. and an M.B.A. magna cum laude from Harvard Business School. Midway through a career of teaching and consulting (he had been appointed to the faculty of the Harvard Business School) he experienced an unexpected and instantaneous conversion to Christianity which led to a dramatic refocus of his activities. Since then he has pursued theological studies at several seminaries, helped produce and host a Catholic Television talk show, and edited and written for several Catholic books and reviews.
He is the author of Salvation Is From The Jews - a must read!
Catholicism imitates Judaism not Christianity. the only difference between Catholicism and Judaism is that belief in Christ is claimed.
Make the next gift to yourself, a copy of Roy Schoeman's book:

The purpose of the book is to give the Christian reader a deeper understanding of Judaism, both as a religion in itself and as a central component of Christian salvation, and to reveal to the Jewish reader the incomprehensible importance and glory which Jews and Judaism most truly have; a glory and importance which is only revealed in the light of the Catholic faith. It traces the role of Judaism and the Jewish people in Gods plan for the salvation of all mankind from Abraham through the Second Coming, as revealed by the Catholic faith and by a thoughtful examination of history, showing the infinite nobility and importance which Judaism has as Gods own religion, and the unique and central role it has in the destiny of all of creation. Repeatedly it demonstrates that rather than debasing Judaism or Jews, true Christianity ennobles them to a far greater degree than even Judaism itself does. It documents that throughout history attacks on Jews and Judaism have been rooted not in Christianity, but in the most anti-Christian of forces.
I could not put this book down. Rarely do I ever read a book all the way through but I now go back to Roy's book to reread certain topics. It is so well written and excrutiatingly documented.
WOW - I hadn't read Roy Shoeman's conversion story. How powerful!
The argument that Catholicism is "too Jewish" is old as the hills. In reality, some denominations of Protestantism are more "Jewish" than Catholicism.
My birthday's coming up. Don't mind if I do ;-)
The "best" of Judaism indeed.
"For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.'" (Matt. 23)
Hey, I didn't post this. Just commented on it.
Take it up with NYER or whatever her name is.
I realize it's a pop thread today, to claim Jewish roots for everyting, but doesn't this idea undermine the authority of Peter and the Magisterium of the Church? Sounds like it all gets interpretated as, "You are Peter and upon the Rock of Abraham I will build my church."
When I heard him tell this story on EWTN's Bookmark, the image of Saul came to mind. Tonight's guests on The Journey Home are Peter & Charlene Anderson, former Lutherans. That program airs at 8pm EST. If you enjoy conversion stories, click on this link to hear 100's of them in Real Audio.
Let's see....we pray to Jesus, we know Him to be our Savior, we accept His sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary, we know He rose on the third day, we celebrate the Eucharist....so what does that make us? Pagans?
I am Catholic, and I am a Christian. Christ died for me as much as He died for Protestants. To keep spewing the bile that Catholics aren't Christian is bigotry of the worst sort! Secondly, to claim that Judaism and Catholic Christianity are differentiated only by Catholics "claiming" belief in Christ is equally bigoted. We don't have Easter seders and don't honor Yom Kippur. Those are Jewish rites....and are not Christian rites, in case you hadn't noticed.
I hope God will open your eyes to understand that ALL Christians worship the same God, are saved by the same Christ and have the same salvation. We just differ in the details.
Yours in Christ, B.
It may have been 'pop' way back when, also:
The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders failed to recognize him, and by condemning him they fulfilled the oracles of the prophets that are read sabbath after sabbath.
Don't we keep reading those prophets as part of Christian worship? Israel was doing it long before we were doing it.
