As iconography, the subject matter of David is certainly referring to something that is taught in the context of the Church as a whole. A nekkid young male. Given the scandals of recent years , this sentence takes on a whole different meaning. :o)

The statue of David is as it is. The sex scandals of recent years do nothing whatsoever to alter it's artistic merit or its iconographic value. I don't even pay attention to David's doodle.
