What reason is there to believe the predictions are authentic and are matched up correctly with the Popes named? Isn't it classic hubris to believe you live in the "end times"?

Of course we live in the end times. The end times began when Christ ascended into heaven. The church has waited since then for his second coming.

However, your post alludes to the feeling that people seem to be "worked up" over the thought that the end of the end times has approached. Christians should always act as if Christ is coming today, tomorrow or the next day. He said that "no man knew the day nor the hour of his arrival," just that it was close.
