This is exactly how new liturgy gets introduced into the Church. "present the Vatican with a fait accompli" and they say "Oh Well! As long as they are doing it already anyway, we might as well give it the green light."

How would lay homilists solve a priest shortage? For it to be a mass, it would require a priest for the consecration anyway? Or did they mean "communion service," not mass?
