That is not "reasonable" - that is heretical. In any faith.

Whats really required is to escape from the 'corporate' church and retreat to the believers church. The catholic (or any other large church) can no longer be counted on to respond rationally to heresy.
If you excommunicate these people they will be faced with massive protests and even more massive hemmorage of funding. Unwilling to face the loss of revenue the catholic church will 'compromise' their positions and 'tolerate' heresy.
