Those who would wish to derail the canonization of Pope Pius XII both inside and outside the Church have one thing in common: hate.

They hate Pius......because he WAS piety itself in his life & example which he gave to others. Authors outside the Church....Jewish, Protestant, Agnostic, or whatever hate him because he exemplified Christ to the world. Because of this, he cannot be shown as having done any "good". That which he did - overtly and covertly - for both Jews and other non-Catholics in Europe, to protect them, must be ignored or at least glossed over.

Not so much as these things advance the agenda of what some have referred to as the "holocaust machine", but because they speak of hatred for Christ, His Church, and those who would revere & follow Him and His Church.

The reality is that Pius did many things to help civilians all over Europe during the war - of every stripe. Much of it is and remains covert. It had to be so, as he could accomplish much more literal good via underground means then by overt actions which would have aroused reprisals against both Catholics and Jews. To have aroused such reprisals would be the military equivalent of "shooting yourself in the foot".

If one wants to get mad at anybody about WWII in general, and the rise of Hitler in particular, one should get mad at the US. Our government knew who Hitler was and what he was doing. FDR knew. And he knew about the internment/work/death camps. The public was kept in the dark, as was the average serviceman in the military, until the "discovery" of the camps toward the end of the war. Thus a lot of killing, maiming, and torture was permitted.

Pius XII's reward from the US for all of his valient covert work to save Jews, Christians, and others from imprisonment, torture & death? FDR had the Vatican bombed by Allied planes - despite promises to the contrary.

The policies of the United States government during WWI, and specifically of FDR, allowed Europe to be devastated of people and property, paving the way for Stalin's troops to overrun and capture half of Europe. This planned and agreed upon construction of the Iron Curtain sealed the fate of millions of Europeans in virtual slavery....with the everpresent threat of imprisonment and torture looming over them.

The "holocaust" of Catholic Europeans did not end in 1945. It lasted until 1989. In a sense it continues - in the spiritual sense, as they have now lost the faith which held them together during those dark years, which Pius XII kept alive behind the scenes.

Right on, Thor.

Pius XII also is the "face" of pre-Vatican II, so he has to be smeared for that reason alone by the "progressives". War or no war, they had to smear him, along with Pius IX because he was a stauch defender of the faith. And they have to reduce St. Pius X some sort of "sugar daddy" because he lowered the age of Communion.

The notion that the Holy Father considers it his mission to canonize Pope Pius XII is telling and interesting to me. Does this mean he does not think he is the Pope that will consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart? In order of importance Pope Pius XII's case is a bit further down the line in importance. "He" has never claimed the consecration has been done, only underlings, who's motives are suspect. Could it be he knows he is not the one heaven intends to fulfill this command? The whole failure to respond to Our Lady's request since 1960 reminds me of Moses in the desert hesitating to strike the rock. Moses was denied permission to cross the Jordan and enter into the promised land. Could this be a lesson for the Holy Father (and all us as well) as we proceed toward the Tribulation?

His focus on Pope Pius XII has an odd note to it as well. I have always considered WWII an event of biblical significance, largely due to the Holocaust. This event is a giant reason for the formation of the modern state of Israel. In addition the focus on Pope Pius XII is shaping up to be centered on his aid and comfort to the Jews (or lack thereof if you dislike PPXII). If he is canonized will he be a patron saint of Jewish converts? Does this mean the old prophecy of Saint Paul moves one step closer to fruition?
