It really does not matter what occurred in the primitive church,

It doesn't matter what St. Peter did?

The Council of Trent had the revival of the permanent diaconate on its agenda, but did not take it up.

You don't recognize the diaconate as a separate order, as leaving an indelible sign, and think it's some kind of "confection."

You really do need to read some sacramental theology.

"The Council of Trent had the revival of the permanent diaconate on its agenda, but did not take it up"

......and your point was.....? Like I said, there have not been permanenet deacons in the Church for many, many centuries.

"You don't recognize the diaconate as a separate order, as leaving an indelible sign, and think it's some kind of "confection."

Yea - I do. Its function in my view is secondary to that of the church janitor........or minor importance, and frankly a tiny footnote in history. It should be abolished - in its "permenancy", and relegated back to transitional status where it belongs.

It would be my personal opinion that the diaconate has no real clerical status - except in name only (and that is stretching things). Certainly not on the same level as a priest. I do not believe that it has anything like the character of the preisthood itself.

I am not required to "believe" in the Permenant Diaconate.
