Prayer Thread -praying for the Pope
Knitting A Conundrum

Posted on 02/01/2005 3:25:06 PM PST by Knitting A Conundrum

Please join me in prayer for John Paul II. I am asking that we don't bicker, just pray on this thread. God bless.

Lord, You invite all who are burdened to come to You. Allow your healing hand to heal your servant, John Paul. Touch his soul with Your compassion for others. Touch his heart with Your courage and infinite love for all. Touch his mind with Your wisdom, that his mouth may always proclaim Your praise. Most loving Heart of Jesus, bring him health in body and spirit that he may serve You with all his strength. Touch gently this life which You have created, now and forever. Amen.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on the sick and dying.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

DEUS, omnium fidelium pastor et rector, famulum tuum Johannem Paulum, quem pastorem Ecclesiae tuae praeesse voluisti, propitius respice: da ei, quaesumus, verbo et exemplo, quibus praeest, proficere: ut ad vitam, una cum grege sibi credito, perveniat sempiternam. Per Christum, Dominum nostrum. Amen.

O GOD, Shepherd and Ruler of all Thy faithful people, look mercifully upon Thy servant John Paul, whom Thou hast chosen as shepherd to preside over Thy Church. Grant him, we beseech Thee, that by his word and example, he may edify those over whom he hath charge, so that together with the flock committed to him, may he attain everlasting life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

SANCTA MARIA, succurre miseris, iuva pusillanimes, refove flebiles, ora pro populo, interveni pro clero, intercede pro devoto femineo sexu: sentiant omnes tuum iuvamen, quicumque celebrant tuam sanctam commemorationem. Amen.

HOLY MARY, be thou a help to the helpless, strength to the fearful, comfort to the sorrowful, pray for the people, plead for the clergy, intercede for all holy women consecrated to God; may all who keep thy sacred commemoration feel the might of thine assistance. Amen.

Lord, heal your servants who are sick, and put their trust in you.

Send them help, O lord, and comfort them from your holy place.

Let us pray.

Almighty and everlasting God, the eternal salvation of those who believe in you, hear us on behalf of your servants who are sick, for whom we humbly beg the help of your mercy. May their health be restored if you see that is is good for them, and may they give you thanks in your church.

Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

PRAYER TO THE INFANT OF PRAGUE

O merciful Infant Jesus! I know of Thy miraculous deeds for the sick. In view of the innumerable graces and the cures granted through the veneration of Thy Holy Infancy, particularly in the statue of Prague, I exclaim with the greatest assurance: O most loving Infant Jesus, Thou canst cure our dear Pope John Paul if Thou wilt extend Thy Holy Hand and by Thy Power take away all pain and infirmity.

Infant Jesus of Prague, have mercy on us!

O Holy Child Jesus, lord of life and death, I bow before You, unworthy and miserable sinner that I am, to implore You to cure our dear John Paul who is so dear to my heart. He is in great suffering, wracked with pain, and can find no relief except in You, in whom he puts his hope. Relieve him in his agony, o heavenly Doctor, free him from his suffering and give him perfect health, if that be Your divine will and for the good of his soul.
Amen

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

O Christ, be thou merciful to thy servant Karol - whom thou has given to us to be Thy Vicar upon earth, John PaulII. Grant to him, as be Thy Holy will, a speedy recovery, or the grace of a happy death.

Our Lady of Fatima, look with love upon thy servant, Karol Woytilwa.

Father,
your Son accepted our sufferings to teach us the virtue of patience in human illness. Hear the prayers we offer for our sick brothers and sisters.

May all who suffer pain, illness, or disease realize they are chosen to be saints, and know that they are joined to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world.

Blessed Mother,
Help of Christians,
Mary most pure,
teach us to see with your eyes,
to act with that love
that comes only from loving and knowing your son,
to be your son's hands on this earth,
to be channels of God's light
in this dark world.

O Immaculata,
O Mother most kind,
pray for us now and at the hour of our deaths,
Amen.

Prayers Said World-Wide for Ailing Pope

Prayers are today being said across Britain and throughout the world for Pope John Paul II, who is in hospital receiving treatment for flu.

The heartfelt wishes reflect the popularity of the spiritual leader of millions of Catholics around the world.

His ability to mesmerise a crowd of hundreds of thousands are legendary, and his visits to Britain and Ireland still vivid in the memories of those who attended the huge gatherings.

One and a quarter million people congregated in Dublin’s Phoenix Park to see him celebrate Mass in 1979 when he became the first Pope to set foot on Irish soil.

Three years later, during the Falklands War with Argentina, he toured England, Scotland and Wales. During the six days of the visit he travelled from one end of the country to the other, taking part in miles of motor cavalcades and a succession of huge public services.

Born May 18th, 1920, near Krakow, Poland, in 1978 Karol Jozef Wojtyla became the first non-Italian to rule the Vatican for 450 years.

As a sports-mad youngster he had been an avid football goalkeeper and keen skier, as well as a noted lover of the arts who wrote a series of poems under a pseudonym and toured the country performing Shakespeare and Polish drama.

Wojtyla was ordained as a priest in 1946 after he secretly studied theology during the Nazi occupation.

He was appointed as a bishop in 1958, aged 38, and six years later was made Archbishop of Cracow. He became a cardinal two years later.

Although e did not expect to be elected to the papacy, following the death of Pope John Paul I in 1978, he showed an early determination to establish himself as a figurehead for the Catholic community after returning to his Communist-run homeland in 1979.

Similar visits to more than 100 countries followed, and his keenness for public contact nearly cost him his life during an assassination attempt in St Peter’s Square in 1981.

Turkish gunman Mehmet Ali Agca, who shot the Pope in the stomach, was famously forgiven by his victim during a meeting in an Italian jail two years later.

He was still recovering from the first attack when a deranged former priest from Spain lunged at the Pope with a bayonet in Portugal. He survived that attack unscathed.

His later life has been dogged by ill health, although he has continued with his public engagements.

Signs of his increasingly poor health became apparent when he showed the tell-tale signs of Parkinson’s disease in 2001.

Nevertheless, on March 14, 2004 he became the third-longest serving pontiff in history, having served 25 years and five months in office.

His latest bout of ill health led to today’s cancellation of his traditional Wednesday audience – the first he has missed since September 2003.

Vatican officials on Wednesday said Pope John Paul II was in a stable condition after the pontiff was rushed to hospital with breathing difficulties.

The 84-year-old pope was taken to the Gemelli hospital, in Rome, after a bout of flu suddenly worsened yon Tuesday.

On Tuesday night, the Vatican said he had suffered an acute attack of laryngospasm -- a blockage of air to the lungs -- and needed urgent medical care. However, it added that his condition did not warrant him being put in intensive care.

Joaquin Navarro-Valls, the Vatican's chief spokesperson, this morning said the pope had received what he called "respiratory assistance", but that tests had shown his heart and breathing were functioning normally. He added that the pontiff had not lost consciousness at any point, and took Mass from his hospital bed this morning despite still having a slight fever.

Must have worked... he's doing better. Thanks!

Jesus, Our Healer

Yours is the healing touch
that helps us rise from our bed,
sick with the fever
that sin always brings.

Yours is the soft word
that brings us back to our senses,
frees us from the bonds
that sin always brings.

Yours is the word of command
that calls us back from the tomb,
wrapped in the shroud of death
that sin always brings.

Lord, this day, I remember the ill,
those in need of health,
those in need of spiritual health,
those in need of you.

Hear their prayers O Lord,
and let their cries come up to you,
and if they know not how to pray,
let this prayer commend them to you
who can take away their ills.

Amen.

This is a prayer thread, not a theology thread. There are several other threads you can do that on, but we are too busy praying to play the theological beat each other up game here. Thank you for your cooperation.
