Both Spain and France were great Catholic nations. There's no question. But modern France stems from the attack against Louis and Marie Antoinette, which quickly fell into The Terror, and gave the world Bonaparte who wanted to conquer the world for 'fraternatay - equalitay - and terror.' And Spain has suffered under Communists who butchered clerics by the hundreds during the war in which these Commies were so lionized by trendy artistes. Modern Spain has all the courage of a cockroach, and turned and ran after a single bombing on its soil. The French, since Revolutione, have similarly had a poor reputation, which has grew worse in the 20th century. Both Spain and France are rudderless, leaderless, soulless, looking to recapture them selves in their own histories of Catholicism.
In fact, even just as a reaction to the degredation both face, now, it would seem the climate is right for a new Charlemagne, to fight first the Muslim, but then to bring it back against Protestants, now secularists, in these 'euro' nations. Time will tell if that's how and who and what emerges from the present 'euro' doldrums.

This is the era of Earth’s 1st EL CID, who stopped the Moors’ takeover of a Christian Europe through a baby Spain 1,000 years ago.
A most prophetic prequel of things to come 1,000 years later, perhaps...?
