Hi Biker,

Most crimes are past deeds and not continuing. The punishment has been executed by the secular society usually and therefore not scandalous.

Continuing criminality or sinfullnes are another matter. Then scandal comes into play and the modeling and scandalous lack of love by Christians who look the other way becomes an issue.

I grew up in a city where the Mafia had a large presence and the Catholic schools gave great scandal when they let the kids go to school. Again, few people wanted their kids hanging around that element and I personally saw lives destroyed when girls dated the Mafia sons.

Truth spoken and lived in love will save us.

It seems cruel to visit the sins of the parents onto the children.

Moreover, it seems counterproductive to say no to such kids and I think the Church understands this. Rather than relegate such kids to public school, better to accept the children of parents who sin publicly (gay people, Mafia members, etc.) and allow them to learn in an environment that might be a bullwork against such transgressions.
