It's parody, people.

Anymore, you never know....

"... Next time try a movie about the Apocrypha, Mel."

Clear reference to Gibson's statements concerning possibly doing a film on the Maccabees. Catholics accept I and II Maccabees as Scripture (Deuterocanonical) while most Protestants do not (Apocryphal).

Either way you see it, great material for an action packed Gibson film!

Always wondered how Scottish people ended up in the Bible. But the elders won't let us Presbyterians read it, so we don't know. Were these Lowlanders, or Highland Catholics?

What is so silly about this is that the story of Christ's passion and death is NOT copyrighted in and of itself. Gibson was going by the accounts given in the Scriptures as used by the Roman Catholic Church, as well as drawing from the mystical writings of Blessed Anna Katerina Emmerich (The Dolorous Passion Of Jesus Christ)......which few evangelical Protestants would be caught dead owning!

And no claim can be made that any footage was pirated from another movie by Gibson.

It sounds like a case of pure and simple jealousy to me!
