Rush Limbaugh Reads Reprimanded Principal's Poem
From Radio Show (And my refrigerator) ^ | unknown

Now I sit me down in school/ Where praying is against the rule./ For this great nation under God/ Finds mention of Him very odd/ If Scripture now the class recites,/ It violates the Bill of Rights/ And anytime my head I bow/ Becomes a Federal matter now/ Our hair can be purple, orange, or green/ That's no offense, it's a freedom scene/ The law is specific/ The law is precise/ Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice/ For praying in a public hall/ Might offend someone with no faith at all/ In silence alone we must meditate/ God's name is prohibited by the state/ We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks/ And pierce our noses, tongues, and cheeks/ They've outlawed guns, but First The Bible/ To quote the Good Book maks me liable/ We can get our condoms and birth control/ Study witchcraft, vampires, and totem poles/ But the Ten Commandments are not allowe/ No word of God must reach the crowd/ It's scary here I must confess/ when chaos reigns the school's a mess/ So, Lord, this silent plea I make Should I be shot? My soul please take!

My son came home elated that this poem was read in his public high school by Principal Tommy Craft. Cedar Shoals High School is plagued by all the problems that face most inner city public schools, including drugs and, violence.

Question: What is the best coarse of action to support the principal?

The Athens, GA, Clarke County School Board is reprimanding Principal Craft. craftt@clarke.k12.ga.us.

You could get a bunch of people together and speak before the school board but, unfortunately, if your school board is like many of the other school boards in this nation they won't care two hoots. Been there, done that.

There's a lot of truth in this poem. There no longer is "freedom of speech" in this country. My wife and I are always cautioning our son about what to say and what not to say. I don't know what it will be like in twenty years.

There is, as you say, much truth in this poem. A student wrote this poem. It is didactic, well written, and makes the kids think. Why can't the principal read it? Is he not even allowed to say the word Bible? Freedom of Speech is worth fighting for.

Excellent that your husband has courage. I think it would be a good poem on school tshirts.

Worldnet Daily has now picked up this article as of 3pm. This is another EXCELLENT example of the new media taking over the job of getting out the Truth. First it was Rush's talk radio, then the Freepers, then Worldnet, to be quickly national.
Now if feedback happens, then free speech takes a win.

I don't see why the principal shouldn't be able to read this.

However, on the flip side, I have not seen actual evidence that kids can't pray in school.

I have seen evidence that kids can't be led in prayer by an adult.

I have not seen evidence that G-d is kept out of public schools and in fact have personally heard G-d mentioned in public school assemblies in my area for years.

It's important not to blindly believe either side in this debate. The left claims G-d is being shoved down their throats. The right claims G-d is shut out completely. Neither is the truth where I live.

P.S. I also have not seen a shred of evidence that witchcraft is taught in public schools. And what is the deal with the totem pole reference?
