Election Novena Day 7 And Prayer Thread
Knitting a Conundrum

Posted on 10/31/2004 9:29:22 AM PST by Knitting A Conundrum

Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom Come Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our tresspasses, as we forgive those who tresspass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever more shall be, world without end, Amen.

Lord, into your hands do we commend our country during this time of election. Be with those who vote, be with those who work the polling stations, be with those who count the votes, certify the elections, and all who are involved with the process. Lord, we pray that in our choosing, we may reflect your choice and that our country be in your hands, now and forever, Amen.

O Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God, and my mother, from the sublime heights of your dignity turn your merciful eyes upon me while I, full of confidence in your bounty and keeping in mind your Immaculate conception and fully conscious of your power, beg of you to come to our aid and ask your Divine Son to grant the favor we earnestly seek in this novena... if it be beneficial for our immortal souls and the souls for whom we pray.

that the hand our Our Father guide our country during this upcoming election,

that those who would disrupt and disturb the heritage of freedom and truth be restrained,

and that the hand of God guide, direct and determine our leaders this election cycle and always.

O Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Mother of Christ, you had influence with your Divine Son while upon this earth; you have the same influence now in heaven. Pray for us and obtain for us from him the granting of my petition if it be the Divine Will. Amen.

St. Thomas More, adorer of Christ's Passion, who put prayer before all else, devoted husband and father, defender of the Church, perfect model of friendship, impervious to all bribery, committed to the common good, who reverenced civil and Divine law, civil judge of unimpeachable integrity patron of those who hold public office, pray for us now at this critical time of election, where so much is at stake, where the lives of the unborn and those most vunerable hang in the balance, where the lives of the downtrodden and defenseless against the terrorist are most at risk. Pray for us, St. Thomas More, martyr for the truth, that with this election, we may draw ever closer to the way God would have our country governed.

Little Souls, children unborn, holy innocents, ripped from your mothers' wombs and now in the hand of our loving Lord, pray for us now, that the election may go to the one most likely to help stem the holocaust of souls of the most vunerable, the one most likely to be the champion of life and set our nation on the right track.

Amen

Lord, I offer you up the prayers of my heart,
the worries that transfix me,
the anxieties
and the sorrows of this day,
for the glory of your name,
for the intentions of the Blessed Mother,
for George Bush and his election campaign,
and the safety of our country,
Amen.

A meditation on the first two lines of the Our Father

Father, Abba,
what a gift,
to call you,
who breathed upon the waters
to create light out of darkness,
world out of chaos,
life out of nothingness,
father,
parent,
ours.

O let your name be made holy,
here, today,
in every heart who will acknowledge
your lordship,
the burning flame
that gives meaning
and burns away the dross
of emptiness,
of meaninglessness.

O Father,
today and always,
may we thank you
for the gift
of creating us,
of loving us,
of breathing life into us
and transforming us.

Amen.

O Lord, I offer you my anxieties, fears, sacrifices, sorrows, whatever good I have accomplished, whatever favor I find in your eyes, and this meditation for our dear president George Bush.

Be with his campaign, keep him safe in your hands and covered by your precious blood, this day and always.

Amen.

_________

A Meditation

O Man,
you who stand poised against the universe,
crying tall
how you will rule,
how you will explore,
how you will master.
Babble on
about your wisdom
and knowledge,
and understanding
like those who built the tower,
tall,
imposing,
to challenge God.

O Man,
see how you stand naked against the universe,
your toys and tools and trinkets
cannot protect you from the dark
as your children die
from the hand of your brother,
as your women weep
for the loss of their beloved,
as the hatred festers
like a abscess,
destroying all in its reach,
ready to erupt
with corruption.
Babble on
about the new age
that comes from turning away
from the master
and standing alone
in the darkness,
where the lack of purpose
where the lack of hope
where the lack of truth
will tear down the tower
you built on their blood,
and your challenge
echos emptily in the night
as God watches.

O Man,
naked you came into the universe,
naked you will leave,
and your works will turn to dust.
And yet the God who you challenge
in your hubris
and your dreams
still holds out his hand
in love,
ignoring the spittle,
the stripes,
the nails,
the curses,
the challenge,
the hate,
and offers you his heart.
Babble on
if you wish to go down into that darkness,
or take his hand,
and enter into the light.

Are you the poet K A C?
This last one, imho [very] has a "Caravaggio sense" to it... despite the sadness of the subject [cultural reality], I appreciate it, and find it quite good.
Pax et bonum.

I am the poet...I have a blog called Catholic Meditations (the link's on my profile if you want to check it out)...this is the special thing God has me do...write prayers and meditations, and so I do, and share them with anyone I can get to sit still long enough...I pass them out on about 10 or so mail lists, post them to a website, and occasionally have them published elsewhere, especially on the poetry forum at Catholic Exchange website. People say, why don't you get a book published but actually, I probably have higher circulation on the internet than I could get in most paper text modes.

Thanks K A C
For victory of Pres. Bush & other GOPs
Remember, O most compassionate Virgin Mary,/ that never was it known/that anyone who fled to thy protection,/ implored thy help/or sought thy intercession./was left unaided,/Inspired with this confidence,/we fly unto thee,/O Virgin of virgins, our Mother;/to thee do we come;/before thee kneel/sinful and sorrowful./ O Mother of the Word Incarnate,/despise not our petitions,/but in they clemency hear and answer them. Amen. (add 3 Hail Mary)

On Sunday April 24th 1994, Pope John Paul II recommended this prayer be used by all Catholics as a prayer for the Church when he said:

'"May prayer strengthen us for the spiritual battle we are told about in the Letter to the Ephesians: 'Draw strength from the Lord and from His mighty power' (Ephesians 6:10). The Book of Revelation refers to this same battle, recalling before our eyes the image of St. Michael the Archangel (Revelation 12:7). Pope Leo XIII certainly had a very vivid recollection of this scene when, at the end of the last century, he introduced a special prayer to St. Michael throughout the Church. Although this prayer is no longer recited at the end of Mass, I ask everyone not to forget it and to recite it to obtain help in the battle against forces of darkness and against the spirit of this world."'

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host - by the Divine Power of God - cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits, who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

On my way now for 5:00 mass All Saints Day.

I'll say the Litany of the Saints which concludes with prayers for "All Christian kings.." I think Bush qualifies as leader, not king, but definitely Christian.
