US Election Novena, Day 5 And Prayer Thread
10/29/04 | Knitting A Conundrum

Posted on 10/29/2004 7:10:24 AM PDT by Knitting A Conundrum

Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom Come Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our tresspasses, as we forgive those who tresspass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever more shall be, world without end, Amen.

Lord, into your hands do we commend our country during this time of election. Be with those who vote, be with those who work the polling stations, be with those who count the votes, certify the elections, and all who are involved with the process. Lord, we pray that in our choosing, we may reflect your choice and that our country be in your hands, now and forever, Amen.

O Lord, who, by the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, did prepare a fitting dwelling for your Son, we beseech you that as by the foreseen death of your Son, you did preserve her from all stain of sin, grant that through her intercession, we may be favored with the granting of the grace that we seek for at this time...

hat the hand our Our Father guide our country during this upcoming election,

that those who would disrupt and disturb the heritage of freedom and truth be restrained,

and that the hand of God guide, direct and determine our leaders this election cycle and always.

O Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Mother of Christ, you had influence with your Divine Son while upon this earth; you have the same influence now in heaven. Pray for us and obtain for us from him the granting of my petition if it be the Divine Will. Amen.

St. Thomas More, adorer of Christ's Passion, who put prayer before all else, devoted husband and father, defender of the Church, perfect model of friendship, impervious to all bribery, committed to the common good, who reverenced civil and Divine law, civil judge of unimpeachable integrity patron of those who hold public office, pray for us now at this critical time of election, where so much is at stake, where the lives of the unborn and those most vunerable hang in the balance, where the lives of the downtrodden and defenseless against the terrorist are most at risk. Pray for us, St. Thomas More, martyr for the truth, that with this election, we may draw ever closer to the way God would have our country governed.

Little Souls, children unborn, holy innocents, ripped from your mothers' wombs and now in the hand of our loving Lord, pray for us now, that the election may go to the one most likely to help stem the holocaust of souls of the most vunerable, the one most likely to be the champion of life and set our nation on the right track.

Amen.

To: Siobhan

too early in the day for me to know my pings from my bumps!

A meditation.

I offer this up, O Lord, for Our president, his campaign, the safety of our country, Amen.

Dear Lord,
in our moments of grief
and anger and outrage
when we see the evil that man does,
and feel the longing for retaliation,
bigger,
larger,
more deadly than the one before,
quickly plunge us back in memory
to that moment
when your mother first saw you
handing on the cross,
forgiving those who so cruelly used you,
bearing our sins,
all the hates of this day
and all days,
ready to put out the fires of those angers
with the liquid of your own blood.

Help us Lord,
when we long to act on our hurts
to be your peacemakers.

Help us Lord
to sow the seeds of understanding
when we long to strike out.

Help us Lord,
to find the way to forgiveness
when our deepest being
cries out for spilled blood.

Have mercy on us,
Save us,
heal us
by your spilled blood,
this day and always,

Amen

Prayers:

This day O Lord,
remember our forefathers
who came to this land
to found a country that would be
like no other yet seen.

Born out of longing for God,
longing for new life,
prosperty and peace,
carved out in blood and sweat and tears and pain,
sometimes wrong
sometimes good,
sometimes just hopeful,
you let us become a beacon on the hill
showing there was a chance
for men to live together,
to live in peace,
to grow prosperous,
to have options.

Even though
in the midst of all of this,
some of us abused the priviledge,
and chose to live for the darkness,
and would put out the beacon
our forefathers lit,
we pray
that you will have mercy,
and remember those of us
who strive to uphold the way,
who strive for your light
who strive to be your witnesses.

Bless now our leaders,
guide the hands of those who choose for light,
and for life
and repudiate those who choose death over life,
and who would disrupt the freedom you have chosen to give us.

Keep us safe, O Lord,
from those who would shed our blood in the streets,
those who would tear down law in the name of power,
those who would institute the slaughter of innocents,
those who put hate over love.

Bless Mr. Bush,
and the work he is accomplishing,
guide him and those working with him,
and bring this election to safe and good result.

Amen.

________

Shelter

Dear Lord,
So dark the clouds
that have gathered,
clouds of anger and hate.

Was it always this way,
and have I just seen how dark it all is,
or has the storm gathered
even while I watched?

Nonetheless,
I know you are there,
holding my hand,
asking me to hold fast
even as the winds gather
to blow across the land.

You are the shelter I turn to
as the tempest rages,
and I know
that whatever befalls me,
and the millions of other mes out there
wondering the same question,
you will hold those of us who seek out your safety
and take us home with you
when the time comes.

Be Thou our strength O Lord,
as nations are born
to turn their back on you,
and others maim
in some mistaken concept
that their need
to strike out
is pleasing to you.
and the days seem dark indeed.

But you Lord,
are always the light
even when night seems so close,
and you beckon us
to hear your voice
and be filled.

Lord, be our peace,
and feed us with yourself
and we shall be healed.

_________

O Lord, at this time when things seem dark, and in moments, perhaps we fear and doubt and fret, teach us to offer up all our stress and fer and doubt to you, as an offering, and may our suffering be used to your glory.

Lord, we especially lift up our President, Mr. Bush. Guard him well, and cover him with your precious blood, and may his campaign come to fruitful conclusion so that he may fight the good fight and continue to expand the culture of life against a world determined to embrace the culture of death.

Amen.
