Those who discount God's love for Israel discount God's intentional disclosure of same from Genesis to Revelation. Both old and new testaments give testimony of God's regard for his people Israel.

Evangelical Christians support Israel because of the Biblical mandate.

This is an overstatement. Some evangelicals support Israel because of what they perceive as a biblical mandate.

There are many evangelicals who read the Bible and do not see a biblical mandate for supporting the present, secular state of Israel.

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, (Heb. 12)

He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. And I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name. (Rev. 3)

Christians should understand that God's true holy city is the New Jerusalem in heaven. It is not situated on some plot of ground in the middle east.

The only way the church can extricate itself from this mess is to rise above petty politics on both the right and the left. Christian Zionists who fail to read the Old Testament promises in light of the New Testament fulfillment in Jesus Christ are no less to blame than godless liberals.
