STOP ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH LEADERS' ATTACKS AGAINST GAYS, AND TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUALS

(Lynchburg, VA) -- In response to continued attacks against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) individuals and couples, Soulforce is implementing a two prong campaign this year to try to change the hearts and minds of Catholic Bishops, and beseech them to stop the spiritual violence perpetuated by Roman Catholic religious policies, teachings and anti-gay rhetoric.

Local Soulforce groups and other supportive groups in a dozen different cities are trying to dialogue with their local bishops through letters and other correspondence. Soulforce's commitment to the non-violent principles as taught by Gandhi and King dictates that each group first try to dialogue with their local Bishop first. If these attempts fail and Bishops refuse to dialogue, vigils are being planned in front of local chanceries. Local Soulforce groups planning vigils on November 9 include, Cleveland, Philadelphia, New York City, Albuquerque, Washington, DC/Arlington, Orange County (Los Angeles), Atlanta, Detroit, and San Francisco. Additionally, supportive groups in Denver and St. Louis are also planning vigils outside their local chanceries on November 9th. (Call media contact above for specific details on each location)

Soulforce Twin Cities will attend Mass at St. Paul's Cathedral on Sunday, November 7 wearing rainbow sashes. The bishop in Oklahoma has agreed to dialogue, so no vigils will be taking place.

"We are praying for these bishops to follow in the footsteps of Oscar Romero, who gave his life to stop the violence against the Salvadoran people. Most of these bishops, know the truth of our lives, but they are fearful to speak out," said Kara Speltz, Chair of the Soulforce Catholic Denominational Team. "They know the gifts we have brought to our church, because they've seen them first hand, in their families, parishes and chanceries. On this day we call down the power of the Holy Spirit to transform their fear and temerity into courage and prophecy. As M.L. King, jr. said in his letter from a Birmingham Jail, 'We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the vitriolic words and actions of the bad people, but for the appalling silence of the good people.'"

On November 14, 2004, Soulforce volunteers will gather in Washington, D.C. to try to continue to speak to the bishops, and vigil outside of the USCCB meetings. If the USCCB persists in ignoring Soulforce's requests for dialogue, a civil disobedience will be considered.

This will mark the fifth year in a row that Soulforce has had a presence outside of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) annual meeting. This is the first time Soulforce and Soulforce local groups have done vigils at their local Chanceries prior to the USCCB's annual meeting.

Additionally, Soulforce is encouraging supportive people to individually communicate with their local bishops concerning the devastating effects of their anti-gay rhetoric, their outspoken support of the now-defeated Federal Marriage Amendment, and their involvement in electoral politics. For more information, see www.soulforce.org/denomination/rc/usccb2004/.

Soulforce, Inc. is a national interfaith movement committed to ending spiritual violence perpetuated by religious policies and teachings against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals. Soulforce teaches and employs the non-violent principles of Gandhi and King to the liberation of sexual and gender minorities. www.soulforce.org

The Priest at Mass this past Sunday delivered a sermon to our congregation about politicians who support partial birth abortion and embryonic stem cell harvesting.

He said that while we are free to make up our own minds, voting for supporters of these two horrors was "immoral".

This happened all over the country and will happen again this Sunday.

Meanwhile in Ft. Lauderdale, Kerry attended a service at some charlatans bazaar masquerading as a "church".

John White, the senior pastor at Mount Hermon, introduced Kerry as ''our next president'' and compared him to Moses.

''The last four years we've been living in the wilderness,'' White thundered. ``He will part the waters and you will walk on dry ground.''

I am not kidding.

What a bunch of fools.

I admit my ignorance of any of these "laws" (correct term?)

Not as ignorant as you think (yes, it is correct ;) ).

But this just begs the question. Why do the bishops , cardinals, etc.. not call them on it. I no it doesn't mean squat to the homosexuals but you would think the priests would be most careful about such things.

Well, the problem is that there were a number of liberal Cardinals, seminarians and parishioners who took Vatican II as an invitation to implement "whatever they wanted" (which it most definitely was NOT).

I wouldn't receive communion from one of them if I were catholic.

Which might not be a bad idea.

No wonder Catholics are deserting the Democratic Party in droves.

If you don't want to belong to a Church that teaches that sodomy is wrong, change churches.
Don't ask for support in endorsing your weakness.
Do you really expect the Church to subject each of the 10 Commandments to a majority vote?
If they did, would it change God's perspective?

Hmmm.. I have no idea what Vatican II is/was but from what I gather the "influx of ignorance" seems to have started about the same time.

Is Vatican II something that can be explained or should I do the Google thing and spend some time on it?

Absolutely agree with you 100%. This is an excellent analysis of how things went terribly wrong in the Episcopal Church and why it is now under God's judgement.

Seems to me they have his derriere backwards.

Soulforce might do well to recognize that two edged sword that is capable of piercing even between the joints and marrow separating even the soul and spirit. A soul force separated from an indwelling Holy Spirit is identified with those things good for nothingness. A place has already been created for fallen angels where such good for nothingness will reside in eternity future.

Good points. To those who study Scripture, it isn't any surprise that a group calling it self 'SoulForce', with an icon of a fallen angel in rainbow colors passing through either an upside down trinity or possibly a symbol of Luciferianism, a crystal, would then advocate a position to deny Christians from 'spiritual violence'.

Part of every Christian's life is simple spiritual warfare and avoiding spiritual 'violence' doesn't promote our stance as good stewards, especially when there is opportunity to go forth and reproduce other men into the royal family of God by communicating the Gospel.

Do you love and pray for the souls in Hell? They are the worst of sinners, unrepentant. Should they not deserve the most of our prayers?

Obviously a bit of overtness here but possibly the best analogy yet.

Obstinate sinners who publicly remain so, have already judged themselves to hell. God will not forgive one who sins against the Holy Ghost like and because it is they, not us, who have severed themselves from God, and God most assuredly will not welcome them back with undying affection for their obstinancy.

They know right where to come if and when they are ready to stop rejecting God. We will ALL welcome them with open arms at that time, but until then, we must show our love and loyalty to God, and that means that we will reamin separated from them for now and for all eternity - unless they repent. THAT is how we are expected to "love the sinner".

I disagree with his statement about the lover the sinner, etc... I was taught as a traditional Catholic to not judge others, but to, essentially, hate the sin. But he has a point. If you hate the sin, you will be accused of judgement. i know, its happened before.

"We are praying for these bishops to follow in the footsteps of Oscar Romero, who gave his life to stop the violence against the Salvadoran people"

Perhaps these lost souls should pay some attention to the teachings of Bishop Romero

" A church that suffers no persecution but enjoys the privileges and support of the things of the earth - beware! - is not the true church of Jesus Christ. A preaching that does not point out sin is not the preaching of the gospel. A preaching that makes sinners feel good, so that they are secured in their sinful state, betrays the gospel's call." (1/22/78) -- Salt of the Earth's remembrance of Archbishop Oscar Romero

Do a Google to get the whole scoop, but the brief version is that Vatican II was a council in the early 1960's that made some sweeping revisions to the mainline Western Rite. Unfortunately, it changed some things loosely enough to the point of watering them down, and liberal/Marxist bishops used this as an opening to spread heresey and abomination. They managed to brainwash many a parishioner into [wrongly] believing of essential doctrines, "Oh, the Church doesn't teach that anymore."

Soulforce is implementing a two prong campaign...(apropos)

The American Catholic Church had just better begin ignoring all groups engaged in homosexual agenda activities! With the relevancy of that body poised to fall even deeper due to homosexuals at the altar there needs to be some serious distancing.
