PEWAUKEE, Ohio, October 22, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Speaking at the annual dinner for Trinity Academy in Pewaukee earlier this week, St. Louis Archbishop Raymond L. Burke expressed regret that is took him so long to take the bold stands in favour of life for which he has recently become renowned.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinal reports that Burke told the 200 people at the dinner, "People have asked me if I regret having taken the action that I did, and all of the publicity that has resulted, especially people who know that by nature I'm not very fond of controversy." He continued, "And my response to that is, my only regret is that it took me so long to figure out what I needed to do and to do it."

He is incredible.
The world needs many more Shepherds like Archbishop Burke.
Sinkspur, do you have any idea if Skylstad is a foregone conclusion or if one of these other guys has a shot? (I thought maybe you've seen something in NCR).
Pewaukee is not in Ohio; it's in Wisconsin.
Typically, the Vice President (Skylstad) will get the Presidency of the USCCB.
In my recollection, the only Archbishop who has ever held the presidency of the USCCB was Bernardin, back in the 70s. After that, presidents have been ordinaries of dioceses. No cardinals.
Nominations don't mean much. Precedent does. So, Skylstad would be the favorite going in, though anything can happen.
I'd be surprised if any of the men named gets it. And bishops typically don't like controversy, so nobody who's name has been in the press is likely to get it either.
If they want to avoid controversy, they had better not elect Bp. Skylstad.
I'd like to see Bp. Vasa, or Bp. Gracida elected.
Neither was nominated. Vasa's only been a bishop for a couple of years; Gracida is retired.
Of those nominated (there's another article put up by ninenot which names them), my bet is that Donald Wuerl of Pittsburgh will be elected VP.
Skylstad is the prohibitive favorite for the Presidency. No VP has ever failed to elected to the Presidency in the nearly 40 years' existence of the USCCB.
Abp. Chaput would be the best choice of those nominated, IMO. They need someone to take the position who will clean up the USCCB thoroughly, as its staff is filled with liberal dissenters.
I strongly agree. Let's pray that the bishops share our our wisdom. :o)
I don't believe the article says it's in Wisconsin. A Milwaukee newspaper ran the story.
It's not in Ohio; it's in Wisconsin.
