Thomas Aquinas was one of those pre-VII monsters, and, therefore eeeeeeeeevil to the core. Why should we consider what that rigid Neanderthal had to say when we are having a gay old time in this new springtime of the Church?

Isn't that sad that so many in the Church think that way about a great Doctor of the Church

Isn't that sad that so many in the Church think that way about a great Doctor of the Church

Syllabus of Errors Pope Pius IX 1964- condmened proposition #13 "The method and principles by which the old scholastic doctors cultivated theology are not longer sutiable to athe demands of our times and to the progress of the sciences."

In speaking of modernism and Pius X great encyclical with the same title, "Hence Scholastic philosophy and theology are universally derided and despised. Whether this is done our of ignorance or fear or mor probably from a mixtur of both, one thing is certain: 'Innovation' mania is always associated with a hat5red of Scholasticism; and there is no surer sign of the beginning of a tendency towards Modernistic doctrines thatn when an aversion to Scholastic methods begins to be felt.'"Bishop Rudolf Graber, Athanasius and the Church of Our Time

Humani Generis 1950 Pope Pius XII #18 Unfortuneatley these advocates of novelty easily pass from despising Scholastic theology to the neglect of and even contept for the Teaching Authority of the Church itself, which gives such athoritative approaval to Scholastic theology. This Teaching Authority is represented by them as a hinkdrance to progess and an obtacle in the way of science. Some non- Catholics consider it as an unjust restraint preventing some more qualified theologians from reforming their subject."

"Now, the peculiar feature of the pontificate of Paul VI was the tendency to shift the papacy from governing to admonishing or, in scholastic terminology, to restrict the field of preceptive law, which imposes an obligation, and to enlarge the field of directive law, which formulates a rule without imposing any obligation to observe it. The government of the Church thus loses half its scope, or to put it biblically, the hand of the Lord is foreshortened....”
see Romano Amerio "Iota Unum"

The new church, which might not be able to retain anything of Scholastic doctrine and the original form of the former Church, will nevertheless receive consecration and canonical jurisdiction from Rome."(Glorieux Centenaire) If St. Thomas himself, should he come back to life "would hasten to consign his Summa Theologica to the fire and to replace it with a Summa Scientifica." Canon Roca: Glorieux Centenaire p. 113
Syllabus of Errors #13

In his book 'Athanasius and the Church of Our Time,' Bishop Graber refers to Canon Roca's prediction of a new, enlightened Church which would be influenced by the "socialism of Jesus and the Apostles."

In the mid-19th century, Roca had predicted: "The new church which might not be able to retain anything of Scholastic doctrine and the original form of the former Church, will nevertheless receive consecration and canonical jurisdiction from Rome." Bishop Graber commenting on the prediction, remarked, "A few years ago this was still inconceivable to us, but today...?

Canon Roca also predicted a liturgical "reform." With reference to the future liturgy, he believed "that the divine cult in the form directed by the liturgy, ceremonial, ritual and regulations of the Roman Church will shortly undergo a transformation at an ecumenical council, which will restore to it the venerable simplicity of the golden age of the Apostles in accordance with the dictates of conscience and modern civilization."

He foretold that through this council will come "a perfect accord between the ideals of modern civilization and the ideal of Christ and His Gospel. This will be the consecration of the New Social Order and the solemn baptism of modern civilization."

Roca also spoke of the future of the Papacy. He wrote, "There is a sacrifice in the offing which represents a solemn act of expiation... The Papacy will fall; it will die under the hallowed knife which the fathers of the last council will forge. The papal caesar is a host [victim] crowned for the sacrifice."

Roca enthusiastically predicted a "new religion," "new dogma," "new ritual," "new priesthood." He called the new priests 'progressives'; he speaks of the 'suppression' of the soutane and the 'marriage of priests."

Chilling echoes of Roca and the Alta Vendita are to be found in the words of the Rosicrucian Dr. Rudolph Steiner, who declared in 1910, "We need a council and a Pope to proclaim it."

"There is a sacrifice in the offing which represents a solemn act of expiation... The Papacy will fall; it will die under the hallowed knife which the fathers of the last council will forge. The papal caesar is a host [victim] crowned for the sacrifice." (Bishop Rudolf Graber, Athanasius and the Church of Our Time).
The "Permanent Instruction of the Alta Vendita," a Masonic document quoted by Monsignor George Dillon in a lecture given in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1884, describes how the papacy would be overthrown through the systematic corruption of the young clergy:

"In a few years the young clergy will have, by the force of events, invaded all the functions. They will govern, administer, and judge. They will form the council of the Sovereign. They will be called upon to choose the Pontiff who will reign… Seek out the Pope of whom we give the portrait. You wish to establish the reign of the elect upon the throne of the prostitute of Babylon? Let the clergy march under your banner in the belief always that they march under the banner of the Apostolic Keys" (Reprint: Grand Orient Freemasonry Unmasked, London, 1950).
