The article has at least TWO facts dead wrong. Svea was NOT the superior of the ICK in Wisconsin, and was NOT a Monsignor.

Just the facts, sir.  Thank you.  re: my first post, does "That's..." in the subtitle make any sense to you?

I got a chuckle out of it recalling a similar misuse of "that's why".  It happened on the school bus; a girl, red-faced and peeved at the incessant teasing of a male student [who, just so happened to have had his ear pierced recently]  blurted out:  "Yeah?! That's how come ya got pus comin' outchya ear, Bernard!"  One of those "What The ____?!", unforgettable moments.  LOL.  but maybe you had to be there  :-)     Pax et bonum.

No, it's not a story from the NCR.

It's this story, linked in the NCR.

Since you can't prove the transgendered nun story wrong, I tend to believe it, given the connections. That would tend to make most of the rest of it true, as well, unless you can disprove any of it.

A-ha! Eureka! On closer inspection, the National Catholic Reporter article is just a posting of the Riverfront Times article at the beginning of the thread. Interesting...

You would. The fact that Burke is being attacked from two different directions goes to show that the "controversial" figures tend to be the ones who are standing on the side of truth.

I'll take it that you cannot disprove the transgendered nun story. Good night.

I'm looking into it. I have sources who are closer to the situation than either of us.

Ms. Helmueller wrote a letter to the Papal Nuncio. Does this Catholic laywoman have an agenda?

The lack of information following Abp. Burke's response leaves questions, doesn't it?  Is there reason to believe that the issue [about the trans-whatever nun] was not amicably resolved?

I read in Canon Law that a man who assisted in procurement of an abortion could not be a priest; I would be amazed if Abp. Burke, a "brilliant" canon lawyer as I have heard the case to be, would ignore something comparable that applies to vows of a woman-who-used-to-be-a-man religious.

Not me. There have been (and still are) some real kookburgers in religious life.

A guy who decides he's really a girl's got some issues, for sure.

Absent some sound information to the contrary, my mind's made up on Abp. Burke; he's one of the "good guys".

A guy who decides he's really a girl's got some issues, for sure.

S/he probably was convinced that the surgery was a remedy.  The aftermath, and dealing with that... well, we know that all things are possible with God, which is where s/he turned.

"With regard to Sister Julie Green, F.S.J., the recognition of the association of the faithful which she and Sister Anne LeBlanc founded was granted only after consultation with the Holy See," he [Burke] writes. "These are matters which are confidential and do not admit of any further comment.... I can assure you that Sister Julie Green in no way espouses a sex change operation as right or good. In fact, she holds it to be seriously disordered. Therefore, I caution you very much about the rash judgments which you made in your letter to the Apostolic Nuncio."

I'll trust the good Archbishop. I've never heard of the "Riverfront Times" or Malcolm Gay. I don't know why, but I perceive that he doesn't like the good Archbishop;)

Dear sinkspur,

I'd be careful before deciding that the reported facts are the actual facts. Look at Archbishop Burke's response:

"Montalvo forwarded the letter to Burke, who on November 20, 2002, replied to Helmueller. 'With regard to Sister Julie Green, F.S.J., the recognition of the association of the faithful which she and Sister Anne LeBlanc founded was granted only after consultation with the Holy See,' he writes. 'These are matters which are confidential and do not admit of any further comment.... I can assure you that Sister Julie Green in no way espouses a sex change operation as right or good. In fact, she holds it to be seriously disordered. Therefore, I caution you very much about the rash judgments which you made in your letter to the Apostolic Nuncio."

"Adds Burke: 'I express my surprise that, when you had questions about Sister Julie Green, you did not, in accord with the teaching of our Lord, address the matter to me directly.'"

I'm not sure all the facts have been reported, and I'm not sure everything reported is a fact.

I asked twice.

Once for "Pax". The other for "Bonum".

"The Riverfront Times was founded in 1977 as St. Louis's alternative newsweekly..."

Now where have I seen this statement before? Most major markets have these. New Times. Phoenix sure does.

They're freebies to be picked up at every newspaper rack in the city. 90% advertising (breast implants, abortions, gay bars, etc.). Usually a major "investigative reporting" story to lead off. Matt Groening comics, magazine style fold. So alternative!

I'd chide 'corpus' about posting from this source, except I posted a story from the Phoenix one once (nearly started a riot).

"When I read some of the titles on the home page, I realized that this paper is not what I would want to leave laying around on the family room table. Hardly a reputable source from what I can see."

So, it's the local commie, homo, druggie paper?

And who immediately jumped in to support their crap?
