Despite sinkspur's reputation, I'm actually somewhat surprised that he would defend such a ridiculous argument.

There are no significant group of people who believe that the rubrics are saving works or "magic."

I frankly question whether there are any such people, but you can just about always find one oddball somewhere.

This bishop is slandering people who are simply trying to realize their right to proper liturgy. It's frankly despicable that a bishop would right such a thing.

BK, I agree with you.

OTOH, Sink's concurrence with Sklba's thesis is reasonable--if you accept the premise that there are a lot of people who: 1) Know every single rubric and 2) Make a big scene out of every single error/omission, complete with letters, threats, canonical denunciations, etc., etc.

In the past, we have noted that the "Herald of Hope" column was used by Rembert to defend the atrocities committed by certain of his favorite pastors (at one time, he wrote 3 weeks' worth of drivel to support his pastor at a very prestigious western suburban parish.) NB that this pastor had purchased several dozen copies of Fr. Strange's demi-heretical 'Catechism' and was distributing them freely to anybody who walked through the grounds...of course, he used Parish funds to make the purchase. Fr. Rodney Strange, an Englishman, was a very good friend of Rembert, and visited here regularly.

We don't think this is a co-incidence.

Depends on the definition of "significant group."

Oh Lordy, agree 100%. The heterodox (I mean the "scholars" who generally write this tripe) always forget neglect the fact that each of us "lowly" laity have rights under canon law too. The right to receive the sacraments per the correct authorized liturgy of the Church is chief among them.

Of course, just like their liberal counterparts in secular society, they are only concerned about pushing their agendae.

The fact that an active Bishop wrote this is very troubling. The fact that he is an auxiliary, and undoubtedly will remain so, eases the shock (a little).
