Firstly dear Brother I would like to commend you more than highly for wanting to always do the Lord's will. You are a great example of faith and righteousness. I think most others on this forum have posted better thoughts than I could I just hold you up to His grace and mercy and I know He will honour your decision because it is based on love of Him.

God Bless

Mel

Find a church with Perpetual Adoration and spend an hour with Christ. He'll tell you what to do.

((((((AAA))))))

I have no advice because faced with a similar situation, I just don't know how I would react.

I will keep you and your Dad in my prayers.

Heavenly Father, Please wrap your loving arms around Your servant AAABest and guide him through the trials of facing a very hard decision. We know that You are ultimately in control, but sometimes we are called upon to make decisions that affect another person's life. Through the Holy Spirit, please allow AAABest to see which path he needs to take.

We ask these favors in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen

I spoke with my daughter this morning.

She and her sister Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration are praying for you and your Father right now.

It is so sad how terminal patients are treated in hospitals, sometimes. Hospice care is a great alternative for those who know that nothing can be done, but they want to be able to have family and friends able to visit whenever they want, and where they know they won't continually be poked with needles and prodded to 'try something else'.

I'm sure many have told you this, but the Church does not require extraordinary means to keep people alive. She does require that food and hydration be maintained, and encourages as much pain medication as can be taken without harming the sufferer. She does not however, require or even condone artificial life support such as ventilators, etc.

If your Dad is taken off the machines, he may only live for a short time, but that's God's choosing, not the Doctors'. If your family is there with him, when life support is removed, they will all have the chance to say goodbye, and he'll probably know that they are there, even if he is unconscious.

I've been reading through some of these posts and my heart breaks for you. Some of the decisions we must make in life are just so overwhelming. I admire you for reaching out for help and advice. May the prayers and mercy of our good Lord guide you. I don't have any medical expertise so all I can offer is my sincere support and prayers.

Mega Prayers AAA. I think your decisions at this time are very well thought out and I know you have been praying for guidance.

Sounds like your Dad is in a very bad state, however if he might regain function even to say I Love You or whatever your Dad would likely say.

If the cancer is this far the body will eventually succumb and the life support won't be of any help.

Be patient and Go with God. If you feel any fear remember that is just the Devil kicking you when your down.

Be vigilent, strong in the Lord and the right thing is guarenteed as a result.

God Love you for all the mental suffering you are going through we lift you and your family up in prayer at a most critical time in your life.

We just went through much of this sans the ventilator with my older brother, Dan.

He was moved to a hospice to die and sustained with pain killers and food.

While most of the family thought he was comatose -- I had clear one-sided conversation with him as I assisted in removing food that he no longer wanted to swallow from his mouth. While noone else could figure how to remove the food and worried about his aspiration of it ... I took a large q-tip and removed it -- he followed each request I made of him for this process.

He also smiled when he was again comfortable ... I was able to tell him I loved him as was my grandson ... and he smiled to hear us!

It was very painful for him to eat because the tumors in his lungs and liver were so extensive they were squeezing his stomach, literally and food was an excruciating experience.

I have contacted my sister the Sister of Mt. Carmel, who works for the Lay Carmelites in Darien, ILL.

She will place your intentions of His Will at that National Shrine as well as asking others there to join in prayer for you.
