Well, at least the color is right.
Yep, and I'll look good driving it in my white and gold papal chest high waders. We can call it the Pocket Fisher of Men Mobile.
I think this CTKC thing is Drolesky's deal--mostly online, etc., etc.
If I'm right, Matatics is in bad company
Here is an section from the purpose statement. Looks like a great fit for Matatics. BTW, nice dig at the Calvinists too!

As the purpose of Christ the King College is to produce defenders and propagators of the authentic tradition of the Roman Catholic Church, every student will receive a degree in Catholic Studies. There will not be major fields of study as exist in most colleges. The choosing of a "major field" used to be reserved for graduate programs. However, the influences of Calvinist materialism and Dewey pragmatism have been such as to reduce college education to little more than that of a glorified trade program. Christ the King College is being founded to help provide a college education for future priests and consecrated religious, as well as to help future fathers and mothers educate their own children to be Catholic from the womb to the tomb. A person educated in the truths of the Faith will be able to think logically, write and speak clearly, therefore possessing the ability to compete for admission to professional schools (if such a person believes he is called to glorify God and to sanctify his soul in the midst of some profession).
As of this writing, we have commitments from the following individuals to teach courses in Christ the King College: Father Nicholas Gruner, who will teach courses in Mariology; Mr. Gerry Matatics, who will teach courses in apologetics, Scripture, and history; Father Patrick Perez, Our Lady Help of Christians, Garden Grove, California; Father Lawrence Smith, Our Lady Help of Christians, Garden Grove, California; Father Stephen P. Zigrang, Our Lady of the Angels Church, Dickinson, Texas, who will serve in a consultative capacity; Mr. John Kamprath, formerly the head of the Kolbe Academy in Napa, California, now of Post Falls, Idaho; Dr. Jeffrey Bond, the President of the College of St. Justin Martyr; Mr. Thaddeus Kozinski, a teacher and a doctoral candidate at the Catholic University of America; Mr. Albert Gunn, who is also a doctoral candidate at the Catholic University of America. and, obviously, me, whose doctorate is in political science. There are others who will be recruited to teach various subjects. Each faculty member is noted for his commitment to the authentic tradition of the Catholic Church. Christ the King College is being founded to be an antidote to the problem of the "mixed bag" Catholic college, not as yet another participant in furthering the confusion of Catholics about the Holy Faith.
Gruner and Zigrang have problems, as you know--Gruner's are far more longstanding and serious.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1174177/posts will give you a look at the "materialist" and "pragmatist" debates which may be a fun read.

"How so? What "benefits" does any heretic get spiritually from the charismatic movement?"
It was the Outreach of an ecumenical Charismatic Covenant Community which first evangelised me to Christianity some 17 years ago, and introduced me to the power and reality of the Holy Spirit working in people's lives.
It was following the lead of the Holy Spirit which led me to the truth of the Catholic faith, and subsequently to leaving that same community when I realised how many other spirits were at work there to destroy the faith of Catholics.
So at least this former heretic can testify that he was once blessed greatly by this movement - the Holy Spirit used it to "get me" - even though I can also testify that there are numerous problems with it.
When any of my parishioners ask me about it, I suggest they have a careful look, but to be very wary of several major heresies that are endemic within it.
"The essence of the ecumenical charismatic movement has historically been compromise."
Very true - theological illiteracy, and the dumbing down of doctrinal truth are two of its worst notes, which inevitably lead to indifferentism and compromise for the sake of "unity in the spiwit".
And increasingly often . . .
instead of singing "What a Wonderful World,"
One looks around and kind of feels like
finding a way to take a hot scrub bath/shower down to the cellular level and a quick elevator UP!!!
Great testimony!
I know, I read about him when I was researching the beginnings Catholic Charismatic Renewal. I think some of the Catholics who were seeking a Pentecostal experience wanted to do some pretty wonderful things too. Unfortunately, there were others who wanted to manipulate people and saw the Pentecostal experience as a tool to do that. Also, I am not sure it was Wilkerson's book that inspired these students, I would have to go and dig out my notes to see what my source said.
Actually, Sword of the Spirit and Word of God were exposed many years ago, at least to the clergy. I doubt Mother Angelica knew what Fr. Mike Scanlon was up to in Steubenville. Fr. Scalon is involved with Ralph Martin and Tom Monaghan as well. Last I heard he was periodically saying the Mass in Latin!!! I was stunned, now thats a "tongue" I can agree with.
Ooo goody, I met him about 8 years ago in Detroit. He was very interesting and talked about his friendship with Scott Hahn. They had both gone to Gorden Conwell Theological Seminary. I forget now who started into Catholicism first. I wonder if he was researching this book when he was at Steubenville. :)

It was a Sword of the Spirit Community and Word of God brothers who I was involved with many years ago - I haven't heard of any expose, but would be interested to know more.
Do you know the gist of it?
It was NOT positive in the least. You MAY be able to search for the items at www.culturewars.com. Failing that, email E Michael Jones through that website and ask about getting a copy of the articles. He's a cooperative guy and is VERY bright.
Do you know the gist of it?
There was an investigation of Servants of Christ the King, a Sword of the Spirit Charismatic Community headed by Fr. Mike Scanlon. The investigation was started by then Bishop Ottenweller in 1990 as he had received numerous and credible complaints from one or more of the members of this community. The investigation was carried out by 4 priests who are experts in cult activity and one lay cult expert. This team was headed by Fr. James LeBar and they were assisted by a former member of the Word of God community in Ann Arbor. I have a copy of the Report which was suppressed by then Bishop Cordes who is currently the Archbishop in charge of Cor Unum.
Here is a quote from the summary of the report:
The Canonical Assistants in Visitation amassed a vast amount of testimony, reports, complaints and fears. All have been considered quite thoroughly. Through careful analysis and a close comparison of community practices with the current law of the Church, it quickly became apparent that serious deficiences have existed in the Servants of Christ the King for many years, particularly since their affiliation with the Sword of the Spirit.
The structure of these Charismatic Communities was designed by Steve Clark and some of his Protestant associates on a "shepherding" model. They developed these communites using "headship" and accountability for those underneath but with little or no accountability on the part of the leadership. Another quote from the Report:
This accountability was not designed into the system of pastoral leadership. In fact, the system presumes that it is not required, because the pastoral leaders are operating with Divine Sanction. If a pastoral leader has given a directive, even if it is wrong, God will somehow fix things.
The report is about 70 pages long and is now "out there," so to speak. I was given a copy along with several other researchers, one who worked with E. Michael Jones on the video about Mejugordje.
The conclusion of the investigation was that the leadership was replaced and the community re-organized with the bishop having more control. This same team of investigators was called up to Ann Arbor by of all people Ralph Martin to deprogram Word of God. Ralph and some of the other head coordinators of Word of God had become increasingly concerned by the Shepherding structure of their community and so the "cult" itself asked to be deprogrammed!!!! A first, I believe.
If you do a search on the web using Servants of Christ the King and Bishop Ottenweller you might be able to access several newspaper stories from the time it occured.
Thanks to you both for this info. Although I disentangled my family from this group some 15 years ago, I still have in-laws involved in the London branch of Sword of the Spirit.
"I have a copy of the Report which was suppressed by then Bishop Cordes who is currently the Archbishop in charge of Cor Unum."
Do you know why he suppressed it? Is a he a sympathiser of this movement like Suenens was?
"They developed these communites using "headship" and accountability for those underneath but with little or no accountability on the part of the leadership."
This is an understatement. It was the decision of one of these "leaders" - Larry Alberts - to leave the Catholic Church and found his own "church" which was one of the events which made me start my own investigations.
There was also a sickening indifference among many of the Catholics in the community - "We're going to bring our children up as Christians - not Catholics!" was a refrain we heard from several quarters.
It is a person from this same community who has been appointed by Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor as director of ecumenism in the Westminster Archdiocese.
I will follow up your sources for the sake of those I know who are still in it. They manage negative information so tightly that I can guarantee that there are people over here who do not know what they are involved in.
I do know that not long after this investigation Bishop Ottenweller retired and was replaced by Bishop Sheldon (now also retired) who had experience investigating Charismatic cults himself. It sounded as though the Church was at least sending someone to replace Ottenweller who had experience with this sort of thing.
I went to one of these conferences at Franciscan U. in 1998 to see for myself what was going on and to follow connections to the Toronto Blessing. I saw lots of worship and praise, lots of their (Scanlon, Ralph Martin) books and tapes being sold, lots of quoting from Vatican documents, but no documents offered for reference or sale, very few sacramentals, little if any veneration of the Blessed Mother. It was more Protestant to my way of thinking, (I used to be a Protestant), than Catholic. The most disturbing thing to me happened at the Benediction/Prayer service where Fr. Scanlon wispered into the microphone phrases like "give in to the spirit" while undulating music was being played and many many people were singing, speaking, and laughing in "tongues." I'm sorry to say it felt like spiritual rape. The other thing that bothered me a lot was the final Mass where Bishop Sam Jacobs led the congregation in singing tongues at the Elevation. I know there are other religions that use glossolalia so I stayed away from Communion, I just couldn't go as I didn't know what was being sung at the Elevation.
