I saw a link to this at
Irish Elk, 7/13/04.
I'm sure the Catholics will have one of these for the next World Youth Day -- probably including a Liturgical Break Dance!

Word up, homies!
'Salm 23
The Lord is all that, I need
For nothing
He allows me to chill.
He keeps me from being heated
And allows me to breathe easy.
He guides my life so that
I can represent and give
Shouts out in his Name.
And even though I walk through
The Hood of death,
I don't back down
For you have my back.
The fact that you have me covered
Allows me to chill.
He provides me with back-up
In front of my player-haters
And I know that I am a baler
And life will be phat
I fall back in the Lord's crib
For the rest of my life.

I laughed.I laughed too as I thought, "Oh those crazy Episcopalians. What will they think of next? Thank God I'm a Catholic." Then I thought of Fr. Stan Fortuna and I thought, "Let's hope he doesn't see this article and get any ideas."

Then I thought of Fr. Stan Fortuna and I thought, "Let's hope he doesn't see this article and get any ideas." Fr. Stan's rap act ends when he begins Mass. He seems to know that there is a time and place for the rap, and a time and place for reverence. Furthermore, most of his music is other than rap. FWIW.

and an Episcopal bishop rapping and feeling the beat. Man.
When I was a teenager, there were few things I hated more than adults trying to be "relevant." Come to think of it, I still feel the same way, although today I feel pity more than anything.

Hip hop is the new civil rights.
A'fan, when I read the above quote, my thought was like yours, "poor, misguided person".

Two dozen Episcopal, Lutheran, Protestant and Roman Catholic clergy and lay people have so far joined in the development and celebration of the Hip Hop Mass Names, I want names.
